17:45 – SHOW LIGHTS

SHOW LIGHTS produced her best effort yet when filling the runner-up spot at Wolverhampton last time, sticking to her task well as she was beaten by less than a length. She clearly possesses plenty of ability and this looks a good opportunity for her to get off the mark on handicap debut. After all, she already has the look of a well-handicapped filly from an opening BHA mark of 69 and the application of blinkers today (replacing cheekpieces) could eke out a bit more improvement.

18:15 – COASE

COASE has been a model of consistency recently, winning twice earlier in the year and running at least as well in defeat when finding one too good on his last two starts. He has done most of his racing at the likes of Chelmsford and Lingfield, but his latest effort over this course and distance was as good as anything he had done previously, passing the post less than a length behind the winner. He is only 2 lb higher in the weights here and another bold bid is expected.

18:45 – SHALAA ASKER

SHALAA ASKER wasn’t seen to best effect when fifth on his latest outing over this course and distance, never threatening to get involved after being held up in a muddling affair. He is the type to bounce back quickly and the manner of his previous success here is still fresh in the memory. He was always doing enough on that occasion to get the verdict by a neck and there should be more races to be won with him from a BHA mark of 74.

19:15 – BOLD RIBB

BOLD RIBB makes plenty of appeal on pedigree as a half-brother to several winners, including the useful Lullaby Moon, who was a Group 3-winning two-year-old. Bold Ribb clearly looks the part as well, having been bought for £82,000 as a yearling. He must be considered an interesting newcomer for the in-form Roger Varian (five winners from his last eight runners), in a novice where those with previous experience set only a fairly useful standard.

19:45 – GINATO

GINATO ran another solid race when filling the runner-up spot over this course and distance last week, doing well to be beaten just a neck after meeting a bit of trouble entering the final two furlongs. He is clearly very effective under these conditions and a 1 lb higher mark than last time is unlikely to prove beyond him at some stage. Beaten only narrowly on three of his last four starts, he is well worth another chance to gain a deserved victory.

20:15 – PULSE OF POPPY

PULSE OF POPPY took a step back in the right direction when seventh at Dundalk last month, travelling sweetly in front before getting tired. The drop back to five furlongs here won’t be an issue and she is now with Michael Appleby (formerly trained by Kieran Cotter), who has excelled with his recruits from other yards in the past. A BHA mark of 61 looks fair if Pulse of Poppy can bounce back to her best – this is a weak race for her British debut.
