Cheltenham Festival 2022 is almost upon us, with the fields starting to take shape and our betting markets becoming clearer by the day.
Punters across these island will be hoping to find some winners and top pundit and all-round good guy Mick Fitzgerald is on hand to help out.
Edwardstone was really impressive in the Kingmaker Novices’ Chase at Warwick last month, beating Third Time Lucki by 4l. His jumping is solid and he’s shown speed when needed on the faster tracks. He’s been great this season. There’s a lot to like about him so I’ll be siding with Edwardstone in the Arkle Chase on the opening day.

I like Telmesomethinggirl for Henry De Bromhead in the Mares’ Hurdle. She bolted up at Cheltenham last year, beating Magic Daze by 5l in the novice equivalent and has run a couple of times this season at Punchestown and Leopardstown when finishing behind Dysart Diamond and Royal Kahala. She’s a relatively short price to back as a single so it makes sense to chuck her into this Lucky 15.
The Turners Novices Chase should see Bob Olinger and Galopin Des Champs go head-to-head in all likelihood. Galopin Des Champs impressed on both his runs at Leopardstown this season but I’m siding with Bob Olinger. He looked great at Punchestown in January when he beat Capodanno by 5l. He always finishes strongly and he’s the one to beat in the Turners Novices Chase.
I was really impressed with Vauban when he beat Fil D’or at Leopardstown at the Dublin Racing Festival. He was superb. He also has very good Flat form. Even though he got beaten by Pied Piper first time out, he was really unlucky and probably should have got the race in the stewards’ room. He has lots of size and scope and can gain his revenge over Pied Piper in the Triumph Hurdle on the final day of this year’s Festival
