13:15 – DR KANANGA

DR KANANGA made it back-to-back wins over fences with a totally dominant performance at Sandown last month, steadily drawing clear from two out to land the spoils by 12 lengths. This will be tougher following a 10 lb hike in the weights, but Dr Kananga remains open to more improvement and he is fancied to prove equal to the challenge for Ben Clarke, who is making a name for himself this season with a small team of horses.

13:45 – EARTH LORD

EARTH LORD proved at least as good as ever when filling the runner-up spot on his most recent outing over hurdles at Warwick, running on well to be beaten a little over a length. That form puts him right in the mix here and his strength at the finish suggests the step up in trip could unlock a bit more improvement. In a competitive heat despite the small field, Earth Lord rates a solid bet to register his third success of the season.

14:20 – OPERATION MANNA

OPERATION MANNA was in need of the experience on his hurdling debut at Sandown three weeks ago, but he still showed plenty of promise in finishing second. He was beaten just a length and a half and probably would have given the winner even more to think about with a better round of jumping. He should improve with that run under his belt and this looks a good opportunity for him to get off the mark over hurdles at the second attempt.

14:55 – MY SILVER LINING

MY SILVER LINING took a big step forward to open her account over hurdles at Lingfield last month, forging clear on the run-in to win by seven and a half lengths in ready fashion. The runner-up gave that form a boost when recently filling the same position in a Grade 2 at Kempton and My Silver Lining must command plenty of respect here on handicap debut. After all, she already has the look of a well-handicapped mare from an opening BHA mark of 110 and her unexposed profile suggests she may yet have more to offer.

15:30 – IMPERIAL JOE

IMPERIAL JOE was no match for the winner on his latest outing over hurdles at Taunton, but he still showed improved form to fill the runner-up spot, pulling a long way clear of the rest to boot. He can race from the same mark here and there is little doubt he has the ability to win a race of this nature when everything falls right. Still a maiden after five starts over hurdles, he has a very good chance here to gain a deserved victory.

16:05 – LONGSHANKS

LONGSHANKS put in a more assured round of jumping when finding one too good at Ffos Las last month, shaping as if back in form and showing more than enough to suggest he is on a good mark. That was just his fourth start over fences and the form is working out well as the third, Yggdrasil, went on to win his next race at Hereford. Plenty of these have questions to answer and Longshanks might not need to improve to gain a first win over fences.

16:40 – GIVE US A SWIG

GIVE US A SWIG produced a career-best effort over fences when second at Ffos Las five weeks ago, coming a long way clear with a similarly lightly-raced type. He is 3 lb higher in the weights here, but that looks a fair assessment and it’s surely only a matter of time before he’s winning races over fences. This looks a good opportunity for Give Us A Swig to do just that, lining up in a weak contest in which his rider also claims 7 lb.
