13:55 – Our Idic Boy
Ribeye is on a good mark but took a bit of time to get to his feet after a final-flight tumble at Catterick last week so he’s opposed with OUR IDIC BOY. It turns out Ian Williams’ charge bumped into a fellow improver when beaten at short odds at Ludlow in November and he can get back to winning ways after a break. Last-time-out course scorer Freethinker also makes the shortlist.

14:30 – Choral Work
Galahad Threepwood is an interesting recruit from the Flat but CHORAL WORK won comfortably enough at Taunton so she’s the percentage call. Andre Le Notre couldn’t justify market confidence on his bumper debut but is evidently thought capable of better now switching to hurdles.
15:05 – Alghazaal
Not much solid form to go on here so a chance is taken on ALGHAZAAL improving now handicapping for the first time in this sphere. He hasn’t made an impact in novices this winter but he should be up to doing something from this sort of mark judged on his Flat ability and Brian Hughes takes the ride. The form of Phoenix Strike’s handicap debut third has been franked so he’s feared most ahead of Monfass.

15:40 – Edmond Dantes
A weak-looking handicap which would appear to present a good opportunity for EDMOND DANTES to follow up his recent Market Rasen chase debut success. Thundersockssundae might fare better with his chase debut experience under his belt and gets the nod for the forecast spot.
16:15 – Goobinator (NAP)
Although GOOBINATOR (nap) was twice a beaten favourite back hurdling at the end of 2021 his latest Doncaster third reads well in the context of this race and he’s worth another chance with first-time cheekpieces added to his regular hood. Seddon failed to stay 3m last time and has quickly returned to the mark he won at Lingfield in November so he could pose the chief threat.

16:50 – Ar Mest
Brian Hughes takes over in the saddle on AR MEST who is taken to gain compensation for getting collared near the line here last time. Slanelough can follow him home.
17:20 – Nikolayeva
Jamie Snowden has been a rare visitor here but he tends to do quite well with those he sends North from his Lambourn base so NIKOLAYEVA gets the nod to make a successful handicap hurdle debut. She’s A Rocca can follow her home.
