We’re just a week away from the Cheltenham Festival, which means it’s the final episode of our antepost tipping podcast series as attention turns to the handicaps.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
The From The Horse’s Mouth team ran the rule over the Cheltenham Plate, with legendary jockey Ruby Walsh, Paddy’s trader Frank Hickey and tipster Rory Delargy giving their early fancies ahead of final declarations.
You can listen to the Cheltenham Countdown show in full BELOW.
Ruby Walsh:
“Tom O’Brien has done a really good job on Celebre Dallen. He’s won his last three and gone up a total of 21lbs. He’s a 10 year old and this is arguably the most competitive race he’ll run in with his penalty. He’s probably opposable but in terms of what will win the race, I’m not too sure. A Wave Of The Sea is always a horse who looks like he wants a bit further so he could be worth keeping an eye on but I’m not sold.”

Frank Hickey:
“I like Vienna Court and I’m hoping she runs here instead of in the Mare’s. She was slightly disappointing at Huntingdon when she was turned over when odds on. A big field handicap will suit her much better. She’s won her last two at Cheltenham and won at the November meeting. She impressed on New Year’s Day too, beating Simply The Betts, who was a really good runner.
“She only got 8lbs for that win and she’s been dropped 2lbs for her defeat in the listed race at Huntingdon. If you said to me that she’d be running just 6lbs higher than her Cheltenham win, I’d have been all over it. If she turns up here, she has a cracking chance.”

Rory Delargy:
“I also like Vienna Court and she would be better in this Cheltenham Plate. She would also prefer if the ground wasn’t too deep. However, it was soft ground when she won over Christmas so it wouldn’t be the end of the world for her.
“The other one worth looking at is The Glancing Queen. She would be better off here than the Mare’s too. She has decent form this season having won two listed races. She also chased home L’Homme Presse in The Dipper Novices’ Chase on New Year’s Day. That’s great form.”
