Judged on the bare form of his second to Two For Gold at Doncaster in December and fourth to Chantry House in the Cotswold Chase last time, KAUTO RIKO looks a strong contender off his current mark on this switch to a veterans’ event. Second choice is Minellacelebration, who goes well fresh and looks interesting with a tongue-tie applied on his return from a break. Aso, Indy Five and Prime Venture all have respectable recent form in this type of race.
There are several angles into this race but the Ditcheat factor puts TAMAROC DU MATHAN and Amour De Nuit at the head of the shortlist, as their trainer Paul Nicholls has won nine of the 16 runnings of this contest. Tamaroc Du Mathan is very interesting on last season’s novice chase form, while second choice Amour De Nuit has a solid chance on recent evidence. Dublin Four (third choice) warrants respect back at this venue, Senior Citizen should go well again and Glen Forsa still looks well treated for his new stable.
The handicapper has punished PUNCTUATION (nap) for his win at Warwick but that may well not stop him, so stylish was the way in which he justified the support on that first run for Fergal O’Brien. Mark Of Gold has been in another class to his rivals on his last two starts and is next on the list, although a Nicholls-trained juvenile competing off the sort of mark which Irish Hill has got must also be feared.

The vote goes to LORD BADDESLEY, who is evidently suited by this track and ran well in a major handicap back here three weeks ago. He has a good chance off the same mark back down in grade. Second choice is the unexposed Black Poppy. The other runners have uninviting recent form figures but are well treated on their best results.
Dorking Boy is a solid option on current efforts while things fell into place for Bold Plan (next best) when his aspirations were lowered at Market Rasen. SONG OF THE HUNTER was climbing up the ladder on his most recent hurdle starts last spring and, with relatively few miles on the clock, he may well improve a bit more for a yard that has made a welcome return to form this winter. Stormy Flight and Kateson are others who are likely to play a part.

Judged on the way they won last time out, Fuji Flight and SOLDIER OF DESTINY may prove the strongest contenders. The latter still has low mileage and could have plenty more improvement in him. None of the other runners can be dismissed, notably Major Dundee who is 2-2 over fences.
The suggestion is COLLECTORS ITEM, whose Irish point effort received a boost when the winner followed up in a bumper here two weekends ago. He’ll be all the more interesting if strong in the betting. Fellow rules debutant Weveallbeencaught also needs a close look. As regards the bumper form on offer, Captain Destiny (second choice) holds obvious claims while the Exeter/Fontwell winners Firestream and Hardy Fella are also respected.
