Horse racing tips: 8/1 punt tops our picks for Saturday night’s racing at Southwell

The Racing Post fancy Idoapologise at 19:30 as they run the rule over Southwell's eight-race card.

17:00 – Back from Dubai (NAP)

Distinction is feared after beating all bar an in-form rival last week but there must be a good chance that BACK FROM DUBAI (nap) can make it five on the spin here. Peruvian Summer is dangerous when fresh and is by no means discounted.

17:30 – Guilin

Sean Woods has sent out two winning 3yo newcomers over similar trips in recent weeks so the suggestion is GUILIN, with confidence obviously increased should the betting vibes be strong. Rohaan’s half-brother Red Kite is another likely type on paper.

18:00 – Daafy

A few of these have been locking horns of late and although the strong-travelling DAAFY is up in grade he continues to give the impression he has more to give on this surface. Custard The Dragon and Visibility should be involved as well but it could be Chookie Dunedin who gives the selection most to do. The latter beat Custard The Dragon a shade cosily here in December and had an excuse the only other time he’s raced on this surface.

18:30 – Tiber Flow

A useful 3yo event. My Dubawi certainly isn’t opposed lightly as he bids for an AW hat-trick but narrow preference is for dual Newcastle novice winner TIBER FLOW, who now moves into handicap company.

19:00 – Man of Riddles

One more chance is given to MAN OF RIDDLES, who now drops into a 0-70 for the first time. Prince Abu’s latest run probably shouldn’t be taken to suggest the handicapper has got him and he’s feared most ahead of Brian Ellison’s Hackberry.

19:30 – Idoapologise

Whittle Le Woods might revert to patient tactics, especially as Recall The Show and Airshow are unlikely to hang about. Another who would appreciate coming from behind off a true gallop is IDOAPOLOGISE, who wasn’t seen to best effect when racing prominently last time.

20:00 – Chief White Face

With Banana going backwards this looks best left to CHIEF WHITE FACE and Flaming Dawn. The selection probably achieved more in defeat than Flaming Dawn did in victory at Kempton so, in receipt of 2lb, he should be hard to beat.

20:30 – Auriferous

This looks a good opportunity for AURIFEROUS to finally get off the mark. Strong Glance showed quite a good turn of foot when landing two AW jumpers’ bumpers last winter and he can give Andrew Balding’s charge most to do.
