17:00 – Colourful Dream
The Charlie Appleby-trained pair After The Rain and COLOURFUL DREAM could be the pair to focus on and their recent Newcastle clash suggests there won’t be much between them. After The Rain snatched second late on in that race but Colourful Dream may well turn the tables today. Chanson D’Amour (ran respectably at Kempton on Wednesday) can win races for her new yard, while Sharac and Sylvia Beach can step up from their respective debuts.

17:30 – Busby
Competitive and no standout contender. Muhalhel may have more to come for his new yard and he’s high on the list, while Love Dreams, My Brother Mike and Love Your Work all have something to recommend them. The lack of a tongue-tie needn’t necessarily be a negative for BUSBY on his return to action though and he may be able to continue his revival for Phil Kirby.
18:00 – Divine Connection
Magic Gem went agonisingly close over C&D last week (form franked) and he has been found a good opportunity to shed his maiden tag. There are a couple of opponents who have the ability to play a big part now down into 0-50 company though and DIVINE CONNECTION might be able to lower his colours. A winner when first tried in cheekpieces, the switch to blinkers could be the catalyst for an improved showing. Hachert is also respected, while Seeking Perfection can go close if her stamina lasts.

18:30 – Chloeellie
Sovereign Moon, Arlo’s Sunshine and Jack Ryan should all give a good account but CHLOELLIE gets the tentative vote in a modest affair.
19:00 – Stone Soldier
Intuitive finished ahead of STONE SOLDIER over 1m here 18 days ago but Archie Watson’s 5yo may be able to reverse the placings back at this shorter trip. Al Rufaa is the other leading form candidate but his record fresh doesn’t suggest that this will be the day to catch him.

19:30 – Igotatext
This revolves around the hat-trick-seeking Intervention, who won twice last week and rocks up here a whopping 12lb ahead of the handicapper. He may well bolt up, but he’s taking on better opposition and might be worth opposing. The Cola Kid showed plenty of grit to win at Newcastle on Tuesday and can go well, while Bobby On The Beat shouldn’t be written off back at 6f. IGOTATEXT has dropped to a more realistic level now, however, and he can build on the promise of his latest Lingfield second.
20:00 – Maharashtra (nap)
This looks the right opportunity for MAHARASHTRA (nap) to register his fourth win at Southwell since December. Morlaix is also in good form and he looks the chief danger, ahead of Hector’s Here and Let Her Loose.
20:30 – Great Empress
The Johnston-trained filly GREAT EMPRESS could be on a good mark for her handicap debut and earns the vote ahead of Myriad, who showed improved form when winning at Chelmsford in December. Captain Kane is an interesting contender upped in trip on his handicap debut, while the in-form Art Expert can be in the mix if seeing out the extra distance.
