WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
13:45 – LOUGHDERG ROCCO
LOUGHDERG ROCCO was successful on his second start in points and bumped into a useful sort on Rules debut at Newcastle in November. He must be held in high regard as he was asked to contest the Grade 2 Bristol Hurdle on his next start at Cheltenham and, while he found that a little too tough, he should have no problem opening his account now dropped into a maiden hurdle lacking depth. Maccloud is the clear danger.
14:20 – CLEAR THE RUNWAY
CLEAR THE RUNWAY landed a sustained gamble on his chase debut over course and distance last week by seven and a half lengths from Monsieur Co and is ahead of is mark turned out under a 7 lb penalty. He appeared to benefit from the switch to fences in first-time cheekpieces (replacing a hood with the tongue tie also left off) to score in convincing fashion, travelling and jumping well. Clear The Runway is open to improvement in this sphere and is a strong fancy to follow up. Idilico didn’t impress on his two chase starts, but he was an impressive winner over hurdlers here off this mark recently so may emerge as the biggest threat.
14:55 – LEESWOOD LILY
LEESWOOD LILY has shown improved form since joining Brian Ellison, recording back-to-back victories at Sedgefield in recent weeks. She recorded a career-best effort last time in gutsy fashion, finding plenty in the closing stages to fend off the in-form runner-up, and should be well suited by the return to this longer trip on that evidence. Brian Hughes takes back over in the saddle now and they are taken to come out on top from the consistent Cancan.

15:30 – CHAMP IS REAL
It is very hard to get away from the claims of CHAMP IS REAL, who hadn’t beaten a rival over hurdles, but was very well backed to make a winning start over fences over this course and distance last time. He was 11 lb out of the weights, too, but that didn’t stop him from proving much better than his rivals, and he stands out like a sore thumb under a 7 lb penalty now back on his correct mark. Rapid Raider had been progressive prior to his Newcastle effort so he’s feared most.
16:05 – SARYSHAGANN
SARYSHAGANN remains a maiden over hurdles, but he appeared to improve for the fitting of a tongue tie when runner-up to a well-backed mare over course and distance last time, and he will remain competitive if building on that. He left the impression he is on a fair mark that day, and if brushing his jumping up, can go one place better. Blooriedotcom usually gives his running at this venue and is a threat, along with Rae des Champs.
16:35 – RIO DES ECHANAULT
RIO DES ECHANAULT has built up a solid record in points and duly made a winning start under Rules in a hunter chase at Kelso last spring. He was the subject of strong support that day and went about his job nicely, and arrives in form having won his last two starts between the flags since, the latest last month. This doesn’t look a deep contest and he can prove too strong for Nine Altars.
