WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

13:50 – NASSALAM

This looks like an excellent opportunity for NASSALAM to register a third success over fences. Nassalam created a good impression when making a winning start over fences at Ascot, but he was fortunate to follow up at Newbury (he benefitted from two of his rivals departing in the straight) and then disappointed when beaten a long way at Plumpton. He got back on track when beaten by only three-quarters of a length at Plumpton last time, though, and he has been found a nice opening here against three rivals with something to prove.

14:20 – GUGUSS COLLONGES

GUGUSS COLLONGES was just a modest maiden hurdler but he has quickly proved to be a better chaser. Guguss Collonges got off the mark at Plumpton on his second start over fences and he backed that up with an even better effort in defeat at the same venue, going down by just a short head after pressing on a long way out. He was just a respectable third when dropped in trip at Plumpton last time, but he is back up in trip here and has been found a good opportunity to return to winning ways. Cheekpieces are fitted in a bid to bring about a bigger performance.

14:50 – BREWIN’UPASTORM

BREWIN’UPASTORM is a very smart hurdler and is arguably unlucky not to be unbeaten this season as he fell at the final flight at Cheltenham on his penultimate start when seemingly going best. He had won a conditions hurdle at Aintree on his return to action and he bounced back from his Cheltenham fall to register a hard-fought success in another conditions hurdle at Lingfield last month. That length-and-a-quarter defeat of the reopposing Darver Star, with Goshen a nose back in third, is right up there with the best form on offer and Brewin’upastorm can be relied upon to give a good account.

15:20 – JERRASH

Gelino Bello is a significant non-runner here and, in his absence, it’s difficult to oppose JERRASH. Make My Day, a stablemate of Jerrash, was a useful performer on the Flat and has potential over hurdles, but Jerrash sets a high standard to aim at and is likely to prove too strong. Jerrash offered plenty of encouragement when third on his debut in an Ascot bumper and he built on that promise on his hurdling debut back at the same course, keeping on well to score by a couple of lengths. He wasn’t quite at the same level when only third in a listed race at Huntingdon last time but that is still strong form in the context of this race and he remains with the potential to do better.

15:50 – WALKONTHEWILDSIDE

WALKONTHEWILDSIDE was unsuited by the drop to two miles at Huntingdon last time and better can be expected now he steps back up in trip for his handicap debut. Walkonthewildside has shown signs of promise, most notably on his hurdling debut here in October when he finished fourth in a decent race for the track. He goes handicapping from a fair-looking opening mark and is still lightly raced, so he appeals as being a likely improver.

16:20 – JETT

JETT showed high-class form during his time with Jessica Harrington, winning at Grade 2 level, so he is a classy recruit to hunter chases. He completed a simple task on his hunter chase debut at Kelso last week, cruising 24 lengths clear, and he should prove too good again.

16:50 – MOUNT SOUTH

MOUNT SOUTH was sent off at a big price on his bumper debut at Navan in December but he shaped with plenty of promise in third. That is the best form on offer and he is entitled to improve with that experience under his belt, so he can make a winning start for Ian Williams.
