WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

13:40 – HELLFIRE PRINCESS

Sashenka is the pick on her good-ground hurdle form but she showed again that a soft surface doesn’t play to her strengths at Wetherby on Boxing Day and it might be worth chancing HELLFIRE PRINCESS on her hurdle debut. She made a likeable impression when forging home on her bumper debut here and this well-connected mare could have a good future over hurdles. Malaita is next on the list.

14:10 – THE STREET

Having justified strong support on his handicap debut, Hipop Des Ongrais is afforded plenty of respect. However, he has a 9lb rise to defy and meets some in-form rivals, notably recent C&D winner Eaton Collina and Chepstow scorer THE STREET. Preference is for Emma Lavelle’s runner, who had Eaton Collina behind in that race and is taken to confirm the form. Promising maiden Bari Breeze is capable of a bold show.

14:40 – GEMIRANDE (NAP)

Mystical Clouds and Town Parks (preferred in that order) have both dropped to dangerous marks but preference is for GEMIRANDE (nap), who ran well in defeat under a very positive ride at Chepstow last month and is not yet fully exposed over fences. Pretty good cases can also be made for Rose Sea Has, Yggdrasil and Zalvados.

15:10 – VALADOM

It’s not easy to predict which of these veterans will warm to the task today but bold-jumping front-runner VALADOM ran considerably better than his eventual 23l defeat suggests when fifth in a valuable event at Sandown last month and could blow apart this lesser race if in the same form again. Joueur Bresilien returned to form on his latest outing and is second choice, ahead of La Cavsa Nostra.

15:40 – GRACE A VOUS ENKI

Only four runners and clearly a great opportunity for GRACE A VOUS ENKI to get off the mark in Britain. However, it might not be totally straightforward as Lucky So And So (second choice) showed ability on his hurdling debut and very useful pointer Mr Mantilla is considered worthy of an entry in a novices’ hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

16:10 – CORONADO JOE

It was a slog for CORONADO JOE at Fontwell but he showed persevering qualities and there’s a good chance he can find more at this trip. Milanese Rose and Sweet Spirit both suffered luckless runs on their latest outings and are capable of better than the bare form shown, while this stiffer test should suit Patient Owner.

16:40 – WALKINTHEWOODS

Several of these appeal as being better than they have shown so far and they include top weight Keplerian, Twistedfirestarter and WALKINTHEWOODS. The last-named took a step forward when second on his handicap debut last time and may be able to go one better. Immortal Fame was below his best last time but may bounce back and chase home the selection.

17:10 – EBONELLO

Donaire made a very promising debut last March and is respected but EBONELLO was behind two subsequent winners (one at Listed level) when third at Ludlow last month and she gets the nod. Paul Nicholls introduces Game Winner here but Oliver Signy’s newcomer Sea Village has a much more interesting pedigree.
