12:45 – Authority
Race fans outside of Japan might not be too familiar with our race favourite Authority here but the son of superstar Orfevre has been a real late bloomer in his career. His most recent run behind Japan’s top racehorse Contrail is more than enough to put this field away. The field is made up of some really solid group performers and the fight for the placings will be a really competitive contest, Grocer Jack is open to improvement for joining the Haggas team.

13:25 – Songline
The draw is a crucial aspect to this race over 6f and for the second year in a row the Charlie Appleby jolly is drawn in the car park and by default the Japanese horse Songline becomes the obvious bet to me. I’m keen to forgive her her last run in a hot Group 2 and she’s against much easier opposition here. I think we will be leading inside the last furlong and testing if Naval Crown has enough petrol left to get past.
14:05 – Siskany
Godolphin look to have a strong hand going into the Red Sea Turf Handicap with Siskany not been punished harshly for a dominating performance last time out. Johnny Murtagh’s popular stayer Sonnyboyliston carries top weight here and I think that is big ask off a good layoff and similar can be said for Princess Zoe for Tony Mullins.

16:05 – Pinehurst
The Saudi Derby has quickly become a very popular race for Japanese, American and Godolphins trainers as a key prep for the UAE Derby on Dubai World Cup night (which carriers important qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby). Kentucky Derby specialist Bob Baffert send over the Del Mar Futurity winner Pinehurst to secure his Derby spot. Neither Godolphin runners have ran on dirt and that’s a big negative for me. Japanese raider Consigliere looks the pick of the rest.
17:35 – Mandaloun
Just this week Mandaloun was officially promoted to winner of the Kentucky Derby, so winning here would cap off some week for connections. The Saudi Cup has been the long held plan for Mandaloun since his Kentucky Derby run and his victory last time out in the Louisiana stakes was really impressive from a horse that was 80 per cent. I expect him to run his typical race, sitting in just behind the leaders and making his move in the home stretch. He has been given the ideal draw to achieve this and he is my best bet on the card.
