13:10 – Music Of Tara

The action at Navan gets underway with a big field going to post for the opening 2-mile maiden hurdle where MUSIC OF TARA can win for Henry De Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore. The daughter of Kayf Tara was purchased by Robcor following a Monksgrange point-to-point win last September and was very much an eye-catcher on her rules debut at Leopardstown over Christmas.

She came from a mile back heading for home before staying on to finish sixth and only five-lengths behind stable-mate Watch House Cross. She can build on that run with Blackmore in the saddle and will benefit from a good pace and this uphill finish. Hemlock could be her biggest danger having finished fifth to Shantreusse last April, with Tom Gibney’s horse running a good second here last month.

14:20 – Dreal Deal

The Grade 2 Boyne Hurdle looks a fascinating affair with plenty of these heading back over hurdles, including Thedevilscoachman, Longhouse Poet and my selection DREAL DEAL. Ronan McNally’s runner is extremely versatile both trip and ground wise and has been a progressive star for the yard in recent seasons. He reverts to hurdles having disappointed here behind Riviere D’etal in early December but should improve on that opening run of the season with Paul Townend booked.

The son of Arivco has previous experience here having won a handicap hurdle of 84 over slightly further and will no-doubt be ridden cold by our champion jockey. Elsewhere, Martin Brassil looks to be using this race as a prep for his Thyestes winner ahead of Aintree, while Noel Meade is looking to find some renewed spark from Thedevilscoachman. Darvar Star and several others are all in the mix in what looks a very intriguing renewal of this race.

14:55 – Nathaniels Dream

Another big field as we focus on the 2-mile 5-furlong Handicap Hurdle which can be whittled down to a handful with serious chances. The Tony Martin trained NATHANIEL’S DREAM is my selection despite having no victory yet from a total of 18-career starts. The son of Nathaniel has been heading in the right direction with progressive runs at Limerick, here at Navan and at Fairyhouse since last November.

He went off favourite when fourth at Fairyhosue on New Years’ Day and remains on an official rating of 95 with Bryan Copper once again in the saddle. The use of a tongue-tie and a drop down in trip can finally see him reach the number one spot. Elsewhere, Ever So Cool is interesting for Gordon Elliott stepping up in trip, while Follow The Crowd warrants respect for JP McManus. Uknowcarty is another who could reach the places while first reserve Lady L’Lerom is also interesting if getting in.

16:05 – Farouk DAlene

Michael O’Leary hit the headlines again this week with Tiger Roll but will no-doubt only be interested in seeing how several of his up-and-coming chasers for the future get on in the Ten Up Novice Chase. Troytown winner Run Wild Fred returns to action having missed Naas and has several options at Cheltenham next month, with Gordon Elliott also running Braeside and my selection FAROUK D’ALENE.

The son of Racinger has a lovely profile with five-career victories from just eight starts and has taken extremely well to fences this season. He was just touched off by Master McShee at Limerick before giving Stattler a race at Naas and looks to represent some value for the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham. Mark Walsh rides Run Wild Fred with fellow Gigginstown owned Beacon Edge back on track after falling at Leopardstown, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Elliott has the first two home here.

17:15 – Landrake & From The Ashes

The closing bumper at Navan on Sunday looks a race which in my view should produce plenty of winners down the line. It’s hard to get away from Gordon Elliott’s excellent record in this bumper, winning four of the previous five renewals, which included Ginto last year. It might be wise to do a little dutching in this finale with LANDRAKE my first selection having ran a solid race on debut behind Facile Vega at Leopardstown over Christmas.

The son of Martaline should show natural improvement with that piece of form looking the best on offer and with Jamie Codd now in the saddle. Elsewhere, Willie Mullins runs Klarc Kent with Patrick Mullins riding Boulta point-to-point winner Madmansgame on his rules debut. James’s Gate scored when well backed for the Closutton team at Punchestown last weekend and no doubt the market will be informative as always.

FROM THE ASHES is the other horse I’m interested in here for Charles Byrnes following his debut fifth at Down Royal last month. The son of Ocovango ran very green on that occasion but did catch the eye when staying on late in the closing stages. He can improve to be in the shake-up with any support in the market a positive, while Kiki Badger is another who should run well on a first start for Anthony McCann having finished third to Embassy Gardens at Christmas when trained by Mags Mullins.
