17:00 – Take A Stand
Preference is for TAKE A STAND, who made a promising debut over C&D three weeks ago. Justcallmepete and Lord Vader are the other main contenders on form but the former may need a return to sprinting and the latter doesn’t look solid. One of the newcomers, most likely Hello Sydney, may emerge as a bigger threat to the selection and any positive market moves should be heeded.

17:30 – One Step Beyond
Fact Or Fable has an impressive 2-3 strike-rate over C&D but his narrow wins last month suggest he is not invincible and ONE STEP BEYOND is preferred. The 5yo could have finished closer on his last two starts over 1m, having been checked in the first of them and raced wide on the home turn next time, and the fitting of blinkers could be a plus. Luscifer is also respected but Rectory Road can be a nightmare at the start and it’s hard to be confident he will do himself justice.
18:00 – Calonne
If Covert Mission’s stamina lasts then he has a big run in him as he comes here in rude health. Calin’s Lad, Recuerdame, Assembled and Pink Jazz all have something to recommend them but CALONNE (nap) looked to win with plenty to spare at Wolverhampton last month and he can defy a small rise in the weights.
18:30 – Lafan
Having won a shade cosily last time, LAFAN can confirm placings with Espresso Freddo and Freedom And Wheat, despite the possibility that the last-named can improve further on his third run back from a layoff. Prioritise is also worth a look.

19:00 – Della Mare
Back at the scene of her classified win last March, DELLA MARE has solid claims. Second choice is the unexposed Pollinate, who could well build on her Wolverhampton reappearance run. Jack Ryan and Ocean Eyes are respected on ratings.
19:30 – May Sonic
The very useful MAY SONIC is taken to defy top weight and follow up last year’s success in this contest. Papa Stour looks a bigger threat than Mohareb, judged on all factors.
20:00 – L’Enclume
A few of the 4yos look capable of further progress, notably L’ENCLUME who scored over C&D on her latest novice start. Allowed (second choice) and Needle Lace are respected, while Cherokee Dance is hard to dismiss in her current form.
20:30 – Lady Alavesa
Last year’s winner Hold Fast commands respect but she’s taken on with LADY ALAVESA, who finished only fifth in this race 12 months ago but is on a much lower mark now and gets a massive weight pull with the Balding-trained mare. The selection is very well handicapped and should leave this year’s Southwell form behind. Third choice is Zoom Zoom Babe.
