13:00 – Viva Lavilla

Irish point winner VIVA LAVILLA created a good impression when making a winning debut under Rules at Lingfield in November and he has since performed with credit in a couple of Grade 2s. The form Viva Lavilla showed when fourth behind Stag Horn in the Leamington Novices’ Hurdle at Warwick last month sets a clear standard here and this looks like a good opportunity for him to return to winning ways.

13:30 – Erne River

ERNE RIVER, an Irish point winner, shaped with promise when third in a novice hurdle at Kelso on his debut under Rules and he built on that to win his two subsequent starts over timber. He was well backed on his handicap and chasing debut on his reappearance at Doncaster last month and he justified that support in style, quickly putting the race to bed when asked. The progressive Erne River remains open to improvement and can defy a penalty in this novice chase.

14:05 – Up For Parol

UP FOR PAROL disappointed on his chasing debut at Ffos Las in November, failing to jump with fluency, but he quickly got back on track when reverting to hurdling at Haydock in December, showing a good attitude to land a handicap. That earned Up For Parol a crack at the prestigious Lanzarote Hurdle and he was by no means disgraced in that competitive handicap, finishing sixth and leaving the impression that he might have fared better had the race been run at an end-to-end gallop. Up For Parol appeals as being on a fair mark, is still lightly raced and he has his sights slightly lowered here, so he holds strong claims.

14:40 – Hasankey

Lewis Dobb, a 10 lb claimer, has struck up a fine association with HASANKEY and the pair can complete the hat-trick. Dobb was unseated in luckless fashion when Hasankey was hampered and effectively carried out at Hexham in November, but the pair gained compensation at Fontwell on Boxing Day, winning by a wide margin in a race that took place in gruelling conditions. They followed that up with another win on testing ground at Ayr, and the form of that race has been franked by the runner-up scoring twice since. Hasankey is clearly in excellent order at present and he can defy a 9 lb rise in the weights for his win at Ayr.

15:15 – Dhowin

DHOWIN went like the best horse at the weights at Warwick last month and looked sure to win when jumping the last with an eight-length advantage. However, Dhowin had been sent for home a long way out and he started to tie up on the run-in and was collared close home. Dhowin had to settle for second but the way he went through much of the race marked him out as a well-handicapped horse, and he still looks to be on a handy mark despite going up 4 lb in the weights. Brian Hughes is an eye-catching jockey booking.

15:50 – Shutthegate

SHUTTHEGATE capitalised on a falling handicap mark on his return at Warwick on New Year’s Eve and he wasn’t disgraced when fourth off an 8 lb higher mark at Chepstow last month. Shutthegate left the impression that he would have benefited from a stronger gallop at Chepstow and he may have things run to suit in this big-field handicap.

16:22 – Moscow Spy

MOSCOW SPY made little impact in his only start in bumpers and three outings in maiden/novice hurdles, but he is bred to appreciate this step up in trip and it would be little surprise were he to raise his game on his handicap debut. Two miles around sharp tracks like Stratford, Warwick and Wincanton would not have placed enough of an emphasis on stamina for Moscow Spy, who starts off in handicaps from a lowly mark in a race that, despite the numbers, lacks depth.
