WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
13:15 – BRAVEMANSGAME
This is not a simple task for Bravemansgame as he has to give away 16 lb to his two main rivals and the form of the Paul Nicholls stable is a concern, but he has created an excellent impression since going chasing and looks up to the challenge. Bravemansgame was one of Britain’s leading novice hurdlers last season, striking at Grade 1 level in the Challow Hurdle at this track, and he has made the perfect start over fences, winning all three outings, including the Grade 1 Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day.
13:50 – COEUR DE LION
Coeur de Lion hasn’t won over hurdles since 2017 but he has slipped to a tempting mark and might be able to cash in here. Coeur de Lion should be fully fit after a spin over hurdles and another on the Flat, and his trainer Alan King has been among the winners of late. He may now be a nine-year-old but Coeur de Lion showed during the latest Flat season that he remains a useful performer.
14:25 – ROYALE PAGAILLE
Royale Pagaille made giant strides last season and developed into a high-class chaser, completing the hat-trick when landing the Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock. He put up an even bigger effort in the Peter Marsh this season, defying a 7 lb higher mark to score by half a length, showing a good attitude in the process. That form leaves him with very little to find with Clan des Obeaux – he is rated only 1 lb inferior on Timeform’s figures – and he arrives here with the Venetia Williams stable going well.

15:00 – FUNAMBULE SIVOLA
Funambule Sivola enjoyed a productive first campaign over fences last time, winning four times before signing off with an excellent second behind Shishkin in Grade 1 company at Aintree. Funambule Sivola shaped like two and a half miles stretched his stamina on his first couple of starts this season but he bounced back to winning ways over two miles at Doncaster last month, keeping on gamely to prevail. He is a classy and reliable two-mile chaser.
15:35 – BROOMFIELD BURG
Novices have dominated in the Betfair Hurdle in recent years and are strongly represented again this time. One such contender with appealing claims is Broomfield Burg. He looked some way ahead of his mark for much of his handicap debut at Cheltenham, impressing with how powerfully he travelled before eventually having to settle for second behind a game subsequent winner. Broomfield Burg then made the most of a good opportunity back in a novice hurdle at Kempton on Boxing Day and could still have more to offer.

16:10 – SONIGINO
Sonigino has to shoulder a double penalty in this novice hurdle but he still looks the one to beat. Sonigino, a dual winner in France, shaped with clear promise when third in listed company on his first start for Paul Nicholls at Haydock in November. He was then below form on his handicap debut at Doncaster but he ran respectably when fourth in a useful handicap at Ascot last time and this is a lot less competitive.
16:45 – AUTHORISED SPEED
Authorised Speed shaped really well when runner-up on his first couple of outings and he got off the mark in impressive fashion over this course and distance last month, pulling ten lengths clear. That wide-margin win is just about the best piece of form on offer and he looks capable of even better, so he makes most appeal.
