13:50 – DEQUALL

This isn’t a very inspiring handicap hurdle and it could be worth taking a chance on DEQUALL, who went with a little more fluency fitted with first-time blinkers at Newcastle last time, and is lurking on a dangerous mark. Furthermore, he has a capable conditional taking a further 7 lb off now, and this race shouldn’t take much winning. Milvale seems to save his best efforts for this track and responded well to this headgear last time, so looks the main danger.

14:20 – GINGER MAIL

GINGER MAIL is a half-brother to the yard’s useful hurdler/chaser Elvis Mail – who runs later on the card – but he didn’t better modest form in two starts in bumpers. He did, however, offer something to work on making his hurdling debut at Ayr last month, racing freely in mid-division but leaving the impression he would improve for the experience. This isn’t a strong race by any means and he should take the beating if improving as expected. Bella Bluesky outrun massive odds when runner-up at Newcastle last time and will be a threat if building on that.

14:50 – EN MEME TEMPS

EN MEME TEMPS hasn’t won since 2019 and is yet to get his head in front for this yard, but he has shaped well to finish runner-up in two starts over fences so far, and appears to have been found a good opportunity to go one place better here. This looks a weaker race if anything and a similar performance should see him open his account. Without Conviction is feared most having seemingly been unsuited by the slow pace at Newcastle last month.

15:20 – PETERBOROUGH

One five runners in this handicap chase but it still has an open look to it. PETERBOROUGH, who rattled off a quick-fire hat-trick in 2020, has since slipped back to a workable mark (4 lb lower than his last winning one) and he could be the one to side with switched back to fences. He has hit the frame on his last three starts over hurdles, leaving the impression he is building up to something at Ludlow last time, and he is a very rare runner for Evan Williams at this track (he has had three since 2014). Dubai Days arrives in good order and is feared most.

15:50 – FIRTH OF FORTH

FIRTH OF FORTH displayed ability in bumpers and has shown gradual improvement in three starts over hurdles. He was backed at long odds and duly put up a career best when runner-up in a similar event at Newcastle last time, making good progress on the home turn and still having every chance jumping the second last. This stiffer test could bring about more improvement and he edges the vote over Pat’s Pick, who made an encouraging start for this yard at Ayr last time.

16:20 – ELVIS MAIL

ELVIS MAIL can boast an excellent record at this track (three-time winner) and he shaped well over an inadequate two miles here 18 days ago. A steadily-run race failed to bring his stamina into play, but he rallied well from the second last and is well worth another try at this trip. He races from the same mark now and seems sure to launch another bold bid. Famous Bridge is likely to be popular now making his handicap debut and looks the obvious danger.
