20:36 In A Hurry

Regal Glory comes into this off the back of gaining her maiden Grade 1 win in the Matriarch on her last start. She couldn’t have gotten an easier lead that day and has to overcome a stronger pace and an extra half furlong, which she has struggled with before. I’d happily skip over her and take a swing given her likely price and In A Hurry for Shug McGaughey looks to represent some value. She’s steadily gotten better with age and todays conditions should see her turn form around with Sweet Melania and Shifty She, which will see her hitting the frame.

21:12 Speaker’s Corner

He’s coming in off the back of a loss at Aqueduct on his last start but the case for Speaker’s Corner is a pretty easy one to make here. They tried stretching him out to two turns twice last year, in the Grade 1 Penn Derby when he was sent off 2nd favourite behind Hot Rod Charlie. The other go at two turns saw him collared late on his last start. He steps back to a one turn mile here and all known from he should win this.

21:49 Hit The Road

This is one of the more open races on the card and the Californian shipper Hit The Road is the one I’ll be siding with. Dan Blacker’s runner is a model of consistency in his home state and although turf horses in that part of the world are normally a grade below the rest of the country, this doesn’t look a massive step up for him. He’s been a shade unlucky not to get a win in both of his last two starts and will be suited by a faster pace that will be provided here. The only question mark with him is the extra furlong which on breeding may be a worry but races as if he should carry himself well over nine furlongs.

22:34 Knicks Go

And finally on to the main event. The all-conquering Knicks Go vs a potential star of the sport in Life Is Good. The early part of the race is as important as the finish given the two horses’ run styles. I’m not convinced Irad Ortiz will suddenly take back Life Is Good and settle for second early on so we could well see a repeat of Charlatan and Knicks Go scorching each other’s wings in the Saudi Cup.

He suffered a similar fate in the Met Mile when he came back from his travels but both of those starts were over one turn and he’s more at home in a two turn contest. As we saw in his Breeders Cup Mile win, he’s more than capable of seeing off rivals with early speed over two bends.

I’ve no doubt Life Is Good is as good as he’s made out to be but he has a massive ask on here to crack Knicks with this set of circumstances. Stiletto Boy may be the one to follow them home at a working man’s price but Knicks Go will take all the beating here in his bid to go out as a dual Pegasus winner.
