13:55 Cheltenham – Magic Saint

Lots of familiar faces line up and I like Magic Saint. He has run plenty of times at this course and has strong form on decent ground, which it will be on Saturday. He looks a good option in a tricky contest.

14:10 Doncaster – Miranda

Miranda won this contest last year. It was soft ground on that occasion and I think she will be okay on better ground now. Her photo-finish win at Ludlow got a boost with the second Voice of Calm, winning a nice race at Newbury since to boost the form.

14:30 Cheltenham – Chantry House

Chantry House needs to bounce back from a very disappointing run in the King George VI Chase last month. Kempton doesn’t suit every horse and connections have put cheekpieces on to help him concentrate so that they cover all the bases. He should return to the form that showed him winning at the Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals last spring as there no doubt he has the class to do it.

14:45 Doncaster – Unanswered Prayers

The step up in trip will bring out some improvement in Unanswered Prayers. He is unlucky not to be a three-time winner this season as he lost a race in the stewards’ room at Warwick. He’s got a good attitude and his trainer Chris Gordon is in very good form.

15:05 Cheltenham – Champ

Nicky Henderson and JP McManus will hopefully be celebrating a quick-fire double as it’s very hard to look past Champ in the Cleeve Hurdle. He really enjoyed winning the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot last time when reverting to timber after his Gold Cup flop last March. The drier ground is not a problem and he can cement his Stayers’ Hurdle credentials after Klassical Dream fluffed his lines at Gowran Park on Thursday.

15:20 Doncaster – Midnight Shadow (each way)

I like Midnight Shadow’s each-way chances on the drying ground. He won the Paddy Power Gold Cup in November and was third to Coole Cody in the Racing Post Gold Cup. The  step up to three miles will not be too much of a problem for him in what is a tough race to work out. Cloudy Glen is worth a second look if you forgive him his poor run at Wetherby, He’s a hard horse to get a handle on at times and hasn’t backed up good runs before but has been competitive off bad runs. Kerry Lee’s Demachine is very capable and could go well with Kevin Brogan taking off the 3lbs.

15:40 Cheltenham – Balco Coastal

I’m hoping Balco Coastal can make it a very good afternoon for Nicky Henderson by winning the last race on ITV. He will enjoy the ground and he put up a really good time when running away with a bumper at Kempton on the all-weather. He has a little to find on official ratings, but I am hoping he can bridge that gap. North Lodge is the one I am most worried about as he looked like a real improver when winning at Aintree.
