Leoncavallo has run some very good races in defeat in recent months and ought to be right in the thick of things again but preference is for THE RUSSIAN DOYEN, who bumped into a very progressive rival when second in a chase last month and reverts to hurdling on a good mark. Master Debonair has also dropped to a tempting hurdle mark, while Oakley looks interesting over a new trip.

He’s a 12yo now and has to concede 4lb to all his rivals today but YALA ENKI is a pretty classy staying chaser and has an excellent chance of completing a hat-trick of wins in this race. Elegant Escape will be dangerous if back on song but his current ability is tricky to gauge and a bigger threat to the selection may come from Ramses De Teillee.

This looks tricky and the market should prove informative. At this stage the vote goes to Dan Skelton’s TURNAWAY, who is very lightly raced and could show a lot more back up in trip on his handicap debut. Paul Nicholls’ handicap newcomer Huelgoat is feared most, ahead of Flintara who bounced back with a good second at Uttoxeter last time. Black Lightning could make a bold bid after a short break, while others to consider are Across The Channel and last month’s C&D winner Karakoram.

Three of these made the frame in the same 1m4f Newbury bumper and that piece of form may provide the key to this race. KYLENOE DANCER was behind both Miss Curiosity and Konigin Isabella there but she took a while to get going in the straight and was running on well in the closing stages. She might be the one that benefits most from today’s step up in trip. With trainer Anthony Honeyball so prolific in bumpers, Konigin Isabella is feared most.
