12:50 Our Jester
The final day of the inaugural Winter Million meeting starts with a competitive bumper on the polytrack. Seven of these are winners in this sphere already, including Our Jester for Hughie Morrison. A son of Cill Rialaig who started off in bumpers herself before going on to win the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot for the same connections, Our Jester showed improved form to make a winning return in what is traditionally a strong bumper at Ascot in November and can follow up here.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
13:20 Ballygrifincottage
This is likely to prove a strong novice hurdle for staying types with Irish raider Fameaftertheglory holding good claims but this can go to Ballygrifincottage for Dan Skelton. He won all three of his completed starts in Irish points and was thrown in at the deep end for his Rules debut in a Grade 2 novice hurdle at Cheltenham last month. However, he acquitted himself well, holding every chance at the last before finishing third to the smart Blazing Khal, so he’s fancied to open his account in this lesser event.
13:50 War Lord
In the expected absence of Shakem Up’Arry, who was third behind Minella Drama at Haydock on Saturday, this can go to War Lord. War Lord narrowly got the better of Minella Drama in a good-quality graduation chase at Carlisle in November and he followed that up with a creditable effort in the Grade 1 Henry VIII Novices’ Chase at Sandown. War Lord was no match for Edwardstone, who scored by 16 lengths, but he stuck to his task well to grab second near the line and this is a less demanding assignment.

14:25 Brewin’upastorm
Two non-runners have reduced this valuable hurdle to a field of three but they’re all good horses. Olly Murphy’s Brewin’upastorm looked set to follow up his win at Aintree when departing at the last in the Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day won by Stormy Ireland, so he’s well worth the chance to gain compensation against the smart pair Darver Star and Goshen.
15:00 Bristol de Mai
The Fleur de Lys Chase over two and three quarters miles is the feature event on the card with some smart chasers in the line-up. Bristol de Mai has compiled a fine record over the years for Nigel Twiston-Davies and, with the forecast heavy ground ideal for him, he is taken to bounce back in style. He found conditions too lively when failing in his bid to win a fourth Betfair Chase at Haydock last time but goes really well fresh so better can be expected of him here after a break.

15:35 Pemberley
The Surrey National over three and a half miles has attracted the largest field on the card. This sees a rematch between the first two from the Sussex National at Plumpton three weeks ago over the same trip and under similarly testing conditions. Pemberley proved no match for Go Whatever on that occasion, but Emma Lavelle’s consistent nine-year-old meets the winner on 7 lb better terms on this occasion and that may be enough to swing the pendulum in his favour.
16:08 Shearer
This novices’ handicap hurdle provides a competitive finale. The Paul Nicholls-trained Shearer matched his fairly useful bumper form at the second attempt over hurdles when third to Pull Again Green in a novice at Newbury last time and, with further improvement on the cards now moving into handicaps, he gets the verdict.
