12:50 – Papa Tango Charly

Minella Drama should appreciate returning to this longer trip but he faces three last-time-out winners with the potential to keep improving. PAPA TANGO CHARLY is beginning to look very progressive and he impressed in seeing off a well-handicapped rival at Carlisle. Hardy Du Seuil’s Hereford win deserves to be upgraded and he shades Shakem Up’Arry for second preference.

13:25 – Jonbon

He won’t be much of a price but JONBON hasn’t put a foot wrong and should consolidate his position as one of the leading contenders for the Supreme at Cheltenham. Might I faced mission impossible in attempting to concede a penalty to Jonbon’s stablemate Constitution Hill at Sandown and, in receipt of weight off today’s hot favourite, he may well keep the selection busy.

14:00 – Tommys Oscar

Favoured by the weights and with the wind in his sails, TOMMY’S OSCAR has a golden opportunity to keep his winning run going. Any talk of contesting the Champion Hurdle should end here if he’s not up to the task. Hunters Call may be knocking on at the age of 12 but that was a career-best run at Cheltenham last time and he’s the standout danger.

14:35 – Empire Steel

Royale Pagaille is the highest-rated chaser to contest this race since Jodami won in 1997 and he should put up a bold defence off only a 7lb higher mark than when such a dominant winner 12 months ago. However, the unexposed second-season chaser EMPIRE STEEL (nap) might be so well handicapped that he can afford to be 3lb out of the weights. He was moving like the winner when coming down at Wetherby over Christmas. Remastered has solid credentials and Sam Brown may yet have his hour in a high-profile staying handicap such as this.

15:10 – Foillan

This looks very competitive, as there is plenty of good recent form to grapple with and other contenders, such as last year’s winner Potters Hedger, could return to form. FOILLAN made a sufficiently favourable impression when stepped up to 3m at Wetherby to get the vote. The Brimming Water also won at that track last time out and makes his own move up to 3m today, so he is feared most, ahead of Moon King.

15:45 – Shaman Du Berlais

Daire McConville and Kerry Lee successfully combined with a front-runner at Newbury on Wednesday and they might repeat the trick with SHAMAN DU BERLAIS. Although a winner over 2m6f on his return, he could well be even more potent at this trip. Katpoli is well handicapped and entitled to improve on his comeback run, so he’s next best ahead of Gallic Geordie.

16:15 – The Grey Falco

Sacre Pierre may have gone close on his handicap debut had he not fallen at the last but there’s interest among his rivals. THE GREY FALCO is nicely treated on his best form as a novice and, following wind surgery, he could easily leave his handicap form behind. Sao Maxence enters handicaps unexposed but the danger may be Thor De Cerisy, who has several pieces of form to make him of interest.
