Southwell 12:10 – Mayelf

Can be a bit of a handful when running over further and it’s no surprise to see the team drop him back down to the minimum 5f trip. They also take an extra 7lbs off his back with the young lad William Pyle on board, At this trip the pilot won’t have to worry about getting him to settle early on and he has a nice, middle-stall position too. Mayelf looks well handicapped and should relish his first try at this venue.

Southwell 13:10 – Dubai Emperor

Looked very good when winning at Chelmsford last time and it finally looks like it’s all coming together for this steady improver, The 5lb penalty he got for winning shouldn’t worry him too much as he steps onto this track for the first time. He’s a hold-up performer which will also suit as the riders start to settle into a rhythm on this new Tapeta surface. Expect Dubai Emperor to be played very late in the straight and maintain the hot run of the David Simcock stable.

Southwell 15:55 – Bang on the Bell

Comes in here with a big ticket to improve having run really well on his first handicap start over this course and distance last month. That has to be upgraded significantly as he was drawn very wide on the track, was slowly away and was then rushed up to take a handy position. Unfortunately, that meant Bang on the Bell used up too much petrol in the early stages. He was entitled to get a little tired later on and did well to finish a solid third. He can be a welcome first winner of 2022 for his handler.

Newcastle 16:00 – Progressive

Nicky Henderson’s charge will be having her third run in the space of nine days, but backed up very quickly after Lingfield with a pretty impressive display at Wolverhampton over this trip. She goes unpenalised for that victory as it was an apprentice contest and lines up against Resumption who is now 8lb higher in the handicap for his success over course & distance last time. This galloping track is also likely to suit Progressive much better.

Newcastle 18:30 – Atrafan

Looked really good at this 6f trip last time. The same combination go for back-to-back victories and have found a decent opportunity to do it off a joint-top rating of 50 in this Classified contest. It could be a big season ahead for this relatively small operation as they have posted two winners this year already but only hit the board four times in 2021.

Dundalk 19:15 – Inflection Point

Adrian McGuinnesses runner found things happening a little too quick over the minimum 5f distance around here last time, having previously been all out to win over the long sprint trip of 7f. This 6f trip looks absolutely ideal and he has been handed a tidy draw, just three off the paint.

Our claiming rider, Adam Caffrey is looking for his first success, but he has plenty of experience having ridden in 45 races. He also takes off a whopping 10lb off Inflection Point and this could be a big night for him.
