WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

Ludlow 13:00 – Family Pot

Family Pot was a fortunate winner over this course and distance on his chasing debut here in November but he has arguably shown better form to finish third on all three subsequent starts. Family Pot shaped well at Hereford a couple of weeks ago, when his effort flattened out close home in the style of a horse who found a strongly-run race over three miles and a furlong placing too much emphasis on stamina. This slightly easier test will suit and Family Pot should give another good account from a 1lb higher mark.

Ludlow 13:30 – Zacony Rebel

This doesn’t look like a strong novice hurdle and Zacony Rebel should prove difficult to beat. He showed much improved form when comfortably landing a novice hurdle at Fontwell in October and he backed up that positive impression when runner-up on his handicap debut at Huntingdon last month. Those two pieces of form set a clear standard and Zacony Rebel remains open to improvement after only four starts, so he can defy a penalty.

Ludlow 14:00 – Hometown Hero

Irish point winner Hometown Hero shaped well when a close-up fourth on his hurdling debut at Warwick in October 2020 and, following a 15-month absence, he caught the eye when fifth at Uttoxeter last month. Hometown Hero still had plenty to do entering the straight and his chance was not helped by a mistake at the third-last. He ran on nicely, though, without being able to land a blow, and he is entitled to improve with that comeback run under his belt.

Ludlow 14:30 – Karl Philippe

Karl Philippe was disappointing at Ascot last month but the performance can be easily excused as he reportedly bled. He had previously shaped with promise on his chasing debut when runner-up to Papa Tango Charly. He was no match for that rival, who has since won from a 10 lb higher mark, but Karl Philippe was six lengths clear of the third and he looks fairly handicapped based on that form. Trainer Fergal O’Brien is in good form and it would be no surprise to see Karl Philippe bounce back.

Ludlow 15:00 – Terresita

Terresita has made a promising start to her career, winning two of her three starts, and she looked a long way ahead of her mark when making a successful handicap debut at Fakenham on New Year’s Day. Terresita impressed with how well she travelled before jumping on at the third last, drawing clear to beat a subsequent winner by 16 lengths. She has an 8 lb higher mark to deal with in a better race here, but Terresita still looks to be on a decent mark and could still have more to offer.

Ludlow 15:30 – Another Venture

Another Venture won a handicap over this course and distance last season and he was an encouraging third on his first start for Nicky Henderson at Cheltenham in November, shaping as if he retained all his ability. He has the class to make a big impact dropping into hunter chase company and he is worth siding with.

Ludlow 16:00 – Carlo du Berlais

Carlo du Berlais cost £80,000 after finishing runner-up in an Irish point and he is sure to be well prepared for this bumper debut given he has joined Fergal O’Brien. O’Brien’s representative in bumpers are rarely short on fitness or knowhow and Carlo du Berlais makes plenty of appeal on paper.
