ITV Saturday starts here with a handicap chase over 2m. BRAVE SEASCA is improving fast for Venetia Williams and Charlie Deutsche and, while this is competitive, should take all the beating. A lightly raced gelding, my selection has only had seven runs but has won three of them and his last two at Warwick and Ascot. That last success was convincing and suggests he can cope with a 9lb rise in the weights.
ITV cameras are also at Kempton for this handicap chase over an extended 2m4f. This might be the chance for FOXBORO to score for Robert Walford and Angus Cheleda who takes off 5lb. The selection is at the right end of the handicap ratings off 118 and has been in good form this season, finishing second last time at Wincanton behind Native Robin when on a mark of 117. He has been up to 135.
A Grade 2 here in a novice chase over 3m. Impossible to oppose THREEUNDERTHRUFIVE here for the champion Paul Nicholls and Adrian Heskin. Rated 151 after three wins this season, my hope has only been beaten three times in his life and while he hasn’t faced big fields his looks a promising young chaser. Was once a fair sixth in the Albert Bartlett.
A Grade 2 here in a chase over an extended 2m4f. Decent little heat this and any of the four could win. I suspect MISTER FISHER is the one to be on however for Nicky Henderson and James Bowen. Any drying of the ground will help and while he was pulled up first time this season his win at Cheltenham in the 2020 Peterborough Chase shows what he can do when on song. At the age of eight there is no reason why he has gone at the game.
Another Grade 2 in the Leamington Novices’ Hurdle over 2m 5f. This is wide open. I’ll take a chance on STAG HORN for Archie Watson and Nick Schofield. The son of Golden Horn was a useful Flat performer, rated up to 108 and saw him finish fourth behind Stratum in the Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot. He made a winning hurdling debut at Hereford in a huge field and could be very useful. The runner-up that day had loads of experience.
Here’s a Listed Handicap Hurdle in the competitive Lanzarote over 2m5f. CH’TIBELLO is a tough old stick and while he’s not getting any better can hit the frame at least here for Dan Skelton and Tristan Durrell who takes off 7lb. My hope is now racing off 142 having once been up to 157. His run at Hereford last time was not too bad and this slightly longer trip will be right up his street. Indeed now he’s a bit older, the extra distance is what he is crying out for.
The Classic Handicap Chase which will take some getting over 3m5f. At the age of 12, ACHILLE is not the most obvious contender for those looking for an improver. That said, I think he has great each-way claims. Venetia Williams’s charge was second last year, and has run two crackers this season, finishing fourth in the Welsh National and fifth in the Becher at Aintree.
Oddly he has been dropped 3lb since Chepstow and that means he has fabulous place claims at the very least under Charlie Deutsch. I’m just hoping age is not his Achilles’ heel!

Finally at Kempton a handicap chase over 3m. KITTY’S LIGHT really does deserve to win a decent prize and I believe there have been reasons for his slightly below par displays this season. The Christian Williams runner, ridden by Jack Tudor who takes off 3lb, was only fourth at this track when with a great chance last time but kept on from off the pace suggesting a stronger gallop would have helped. Hopefully he gets that here.
Finally at Warwick a Pertemps Handicap Hurdle qualifier over 3m1f. I’ll give SPORTING JOHN another go here on the basis that messing up his handicap mark for March’s final at Cheltenham may not matter too much. The Philip Hobbs runner is a class act and goes here under Aidan Coleman. He returned this season with a fine success at Cheltenham, before a slightly tame fourth at the same track in the race won by Kansas City Chief. Hopefully he can stay on strongly here for a place at the least.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
