12:45 Jebel Ali – Sharp Spun (Donal McKenna)

Sharp Spun was a good 2nd in a very similar maiden on Christmas Eve having raced too far back for my liking, if he is ridden more prominently I think he can get the win here over stablemate Hero D’Oro.

Saturday 13:32 Kempton – Foxboro (Adam Killeen)

Foxboro looked unlucky not to win on his latest start, an awkward jump at the last looked to cost him a couple of lengths and he couldn’t bridge the gap with Native Robin losing by half a length. He had caught the eye on his first start of the season and it seems like he is well treated at the minute. Robert Walford has his team in great form and I would be hopeful that Foxboro will be bang there at the finish in this race.

Saturday 14:25 Warwick – Surrey Quest (Sam Kirwan)

Surrey Quest is two from two over hurdles. His last win coming in a smart time. He idled like hell up the run in and looked like there could be any amount in hand. His stride pattern points to him being a smart horse.

Saturday 14:40 Kempton – Monte Cristo (each way, Frank Hickey)

Not the most consistent individual but there is no doubt that Monte Cristo has the ability to make his mark in a race like this if he is on a going day. He looks 3rd string on jockey bookings but Conor Brace has had five rides for Nicky Henderson, yielding two wins and a second. Monte Cristo bolted up on his only previous start at Kempton, winning by seven lengths off a mark of 133.

He then shaped better than the finishing positions suggests when 11th in the Coral Cup at Cheltenham, travelling well and being in third turning into the straight, before being hampered by a faller at the last and weakening up the run in. That run was off a mark of 145 and he ran a similar race at Aintree off the same mark, just weakening out of things on the run in.

He does have to overcome a poor run on his reappearance but he ran poorly on his reappearance last season before bolting up here and I’m hoping lightening can strike twice, particularly as he is one of the outsiders here. Considering the price and the extra places on offer, it makes sense to play each way.

Saturday 15:00 Warwick – Gericault Roque (Niall O’ Reilly)

A competitive race though Gericault Roque has been unlucky to run into two very well handicapped horses on his last two starts, and this step up in trip could unlock further improvement from him. Two starts ago he was unlucky not to beat Pats Fancy at Chepstow, and that horse subsequently won his next race by 11 lengths from 5 pounds out of the handicap, and is now rated 17 pounds higher.

He ran into an unexposed 4yo in Saint Palais last time, though the pair were 11 lengths clear of the 3rd, so it looks strong form. There are some dangers in here in the likes of Corach Rambler and the unexposed No Rematch, though I’d be surprised if Gericault Roque doesn’t at least go close.

Chelmsford-all-weather-under-lights

Saturday 16:45 Chelmsford – Wynter Wildes (Daniel Collins)

Wynter Wildes was well backed to improve on her debut 4th and whilst she could only manage 5th last week she shaped a lot better than her finishing position. Slowly away again she didn’t get the best of rides from that point on, making her challenge up the inner. With a better run through tomorrow she should go close in a moderate looking affair.

Sunday 15:20 Punchestown- Feyan (Ryan McCue)

I’m taking a little bit of a chance here but Robert Tyner’s horses couldn’t be in better form and he’s booked to conditional Jack Foley for the ride on Feyan here. He made his handicap chase debut last time in a much better race when he got tired late on but showed enough through the mid part of the race to suggest he’ll win a race off this mark. It’s not the strongest of races for the grade and hopefully he can continue Robert Tyner’s great run of form.
