Each and every day of the racing year we bring you a bumper NAPs table to give you the inside scoop on all the plays you’ll need that day.
Don’t know what a NAPs table is? We’ll tell you! It’s an independently run competition involving the cream of the British and Irish racing press whose positions in the table are based on their profits to Level Stakes. And just like all sports competitions worldwide, those doing best are towards the top of the table.
So, we decided to put that golden guide to the test and use it to steer you towards what could be a savvy Lucky 15 (4 horses, 15 bets). The four you’ll see below are the selections of some of the top-performing tipsters in the table. Let’s get to the bets…
A juvenile hurdle with some strength in depth. Useful Flat-racer LINE OF DESCENT made a promising hurdle debut in a good race at Newbury last month and gets the vote in the hope he can build on that performance here. Krypton Gold will be a tough nut to crack if able to replicate his Leicester form from two runs ago and is feared most but Hayedo has also shown significant hurdling ability, while Big Boy Bobby and Winterwatch are two interesting recruits from the Flat.
The progressive PORFIN carries a 5lb penalty for a recent win at Wolverhampton but in his current form he appears to be a cut above this level of opposition. Nevertheless, the fact that he was a beaten favourite over 5f on his penultimate start does pose a slight risk factor, especially with habitual trailblazer Thegreyvtrain in the field. However, in an otherwise modest affair Phil McEntee’s gelding is still the most obvious choice.
Bang in form and mildly progressive by the looks of things, ready preference is for RESET BUTTON. Recent course winner Selecto should be fine over this longer trip and is feared most, along with Lady Shanawell.
Tom Lacey’s 7yo NOCTE VOLATUS jumped well and made all to win easily by 17l under Dylan Kitts at Catterick a week ago and has a very obvious chance to complete a quick double off the same mark here. There should be more to come from last-time-out winner Jobesgreen Lad and he may fare best of the others. Poniente and Broughtons Rhythm are considered each-way.
