One of the biggest renewals of the National Hunt season on the biggest day of racing in the UK and Ireland, it doesn’t get much better than this.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

Frodon is out to defend his King George VI Chase title but faces competition from stablemate and two-time winner Clan Des Obeaux while Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Minella Indo has travelled over from Ireland for his second run of the campaign.

A cracking field of nine will go to post at 15:05 on Boxing Day but who do our horse racing experts fancy to come out on top?

King George VI Chase Tips

Matt Chapman: It’s not impossible Frodon can do it again for Nicholls bidding for a record thirteenth success in the big race. However, I can’t help but feel MINELLA INDO is the one to beat for Henry de Bromhead and lady-of-the-moment Rachael Blackmore.

Mick Fitzgerald: I won the King George for Paul Nicholls and the man is a genius. When he targets a horse at a race he is brilliant at it. I feel he has targeted CLAN DES OBEAUX’s whole season around this race. He will be spot on for this contest and being a two-time winner of the race, he loves the track. The ground is not a problem either.

Paddy Power: ASTERION FORLONGE may have won the John Durkan Chase at Punchestown last time but unseated his rider at the third last, when travelling well. It’ll be a heart-in-mouth watch but if he gets around, the race is made for him.

Ruby Walsh: Asterion Forlonge was travelling really well before he fell last time out in the John Durkan at Punchestown. He has a chance but the race is made up for MINELLA INDO. It’ll suit him and he’s got cheek pieces on for the first time too. He’s the best horse and he has what you need at Kempton, which is really good jumping. I can see him sitting behind Frodon and making a move later on.

Timeform: Gold Cup hero MINELLA INDO, who sports cheekpieces for the first time, left the firm impression he needed the run when behind Frodon on his Down Royal reappearance and can bounce back to his Gold Cup form and continue the Henry de Bromhead domination of the top jumps prizes in Britain. Clan des Obeaux, who is bidding for a third win in this, can give him most to do ahead of Frodon.
