12:15 – River Walk

River Walk overcame signs of inexperience to make a winning start in a Catterick bumper last month and he is worth siding with on his debut over hurdles. River Walk carried his head a bit awkwardly and wandered when initially asked to make his challenge at Catterick, but he asserted once the penny start to drop, drawing three and a quarter lengths clear. He is out of a half-sister to strong stayer Stoney Mountain, so this step up in trip should suit.

12:45 – Sarvi

Sarvi won this race 12 months ago and arrives in good form, so she has obvious claims of following up last year’s success. Sarvi ran right up to her best when beaten only half a length in second at Ayr last month, and she was a creditable fifth over two and a half miles here last time, underlining that she is in decent heart. The handicapper has generously eased her 2 lb, she will be suited by this drop back in trip and the blinkers are back on, so she has plenty in her favour.

13:15 – Broadway Joe

Broadway Joe has taken well to chasing and has quickly proved to be better over fences than he was over hurdles. He made a successful start at Kelso in October and then scored with a bit up his sleeve over this course and distance last month, which offers hope that a 7 lb rise in the weights may not be enough to stop his rise up the handicap ranks. He can complete the hat-trick.

13:45 – Rumble B

Rumble B has a bit to prove as he’s been below his best on both starts since joining Justin Landy, but he has been given a chance by the handicapper and has dropped in grade, so this looks like a good opportunity for him to bounce back. He is well handicapped based on the form he showed over fences last season for his former yard, and this is not a strong contest.

14:15 – Enlighten

Bumper winner Enlighten has yet to win over hurdles but he produced his best effort in this sphere when a keeping-on third at Sedgefield a few weeks ago and he looks well treated off the same mark here. Enlighten has only raced around two miles but he shapes as if he’ll get further, so this step up in trip might bring about some improvement.

14:45 – Rapid Raider

Rapid Raider failed to convince with his jumping on his first few starts over fences but he is getting the hang of things now and arrives in search of a hat-trick. Winning pointer Rapid Raider showed improved form to get off the mark under Rules at Bangor in October, and he built on that to follow up at Ayr last month, impressing with how quick he was through the air at several of his fences. He could still have more to offer over fences, so a 7 lb rise might not be enough to stop him.

15:15 – Rose of Siena

Nicky Richards and Brian Hughes won this last year and they have leading claims again with Rose of Siena, who is out of a half-sister to high-class hurdler Iktitaf. Rose of Siena offered something to work with when finishing third on her bumper debut at Kelso last month and she is entitled to improve for that initial experience.
