12:00 – Swincombe Fleat

This doesn’t look the strongest race of its type and SWINCOMBE FLEAT makes the most appeal following her hurdling debut at this course last month. That came over just short of three miles, but she was easy to back, and shaped as though she would come on for the run. The shorter distance shouldn’t be a problem, either, and if improving as expected, she should be good enough to come home in front. Marmalaid failed to meet expectations in a Uttoxeter bumper, but she is in excellent hands, and should make a hurdler being out of a half-sister to Champion Hurdler Katchit.

12:30 – Great Ocean

A few of these offer potential, not least GREAT OCEAN, who made a promising start over hurdles when runner-up at Southwell last month. He bumped into one who was useful on the Flat on that occasion and may have found the test of speed too much. This test should suit better and he is expected to build on that effort. Bold Conduct also showed up well on his first go over hurdles when sixth here and this winning pointer is next on the list, ahead of hurdling-newcomers Lac de Constance and Horn Cape, who both represent top yards.

13:05 – Guernesey

GUERNESEY opened his account over hurdles from an 8 lb lower mark over this course and distance in October and is arguably unlucky not to have won again since. He left the impression he is capable of defying this higher mark when runner-up at Taunton last week, having to round the field on the home turn which didn’t help his cause but he still stayed on strongly. A better trip should see him be very competitive from the same mark. The market will help assess Birds of Prey on reappearance, with veteran Trans Express another to consider back at his favoured Exeter.

13:40 – New Age Dawning

Cases can be made for any number of these, but NEW AGE DAWNING is the most fascinating and appealing candidate. Admittedly, his well-being has to be taken on trust following a lengthy absence, but he looked a useful prospect over hurdles a couple of seasons back and this lightly-raced seven-year-old is every inch a chasing type and represents a yard that can get them fit after a lay-off. No Rematch is greatly respected and he is second choice ahead of Morning Spirit and Arian.

14:15 – Maskada

MASKADA produced a more polished round of jumping than on her reappearance/chasing debut to finish runner-up in a listed event at Bangor last month, unable to live with an improver that has scored again since. That is proving solid form and this looks a good opportunity for her to open her account over fences. Pure Bliss and Galice Macalo are both exciting chasing prospects and are feared most in that order.

14:45 – Allardyce

ALLARDYCE hasn’t won since January last year, but he has plenty of solid form in Ireland to his name, and made an encouraging start for Paul Henderson at Lingfield last month. He didn’t jump as well as he can, but he was yet to be asked a question entering the straight, and left the impression he would come on for the run. He looks well enough handicapped to give him another chance ahead of fellow class-dropper Troed Y Melin in a tightly-knit contest.

15:15 – Getaway Cory

GETAWAY CORY was in the process of running another sound race when falling thre out over course and distance last month and could be the answer here assuming he’s over that. World Trip might be sharper with a recent outing behind her and is respected, while Flow With Eve made a wining start for the Ben Lund yard back in the summer and is also respected.
