12:00 The Big Jetaway

THE BIG JETAWAY, a recruit from the Irish pointing sphere, shaped with promise when third in a maiden hurdle over course and distance last month. He had little chance against the promising Nurse Susan (a comfortable winner on her only subsequent start), but he showed up well for a long way and is entitled to improve for that initial experience under Rules.

12:30 Rollerruler

ROLLERRULER was out of form last season but, having joined Stuart Coltherd from Maurice Barnes, he was well backed on his reappearance at Hexham last month and justified that support. The winning margin was only a length-and-a-half, but Rollerruler always looked like holding on under a positive ride and he was value for extra. He has gone up 5lbs, but should be tough to beat if in similar form.

13:05 Gold Cup Bailly

GOLD CUP BAILLY was a beaten odds-on favourite on his latest outing at Ayr in March, but time has shown that he faced an impossible task on that occasion up against subsequent Grade 1 winner Ahoy Senor. Gold Cup Bailly pulled well clear of the remainder though, and that form along with his promising third at Punchestown marks him down as the one to beat. He remains a useful prospect.

13:40 Papa Tango Charly

PAPA TANGO CHARLY failed to live up to expectations over hurdles after connections paid £440,000 following a win in a point, but he instantly proved himself to be a much better chaser when scoring here in October.

Papa Tango Charly jumped soundly on his chasing debut and cruised 12 lengths clear, looking a completely different proposition to the horse who had largely flopped over hurdles. He has a 10lbs higher mark to contend with here, but is still unexposed as a chaser and can prove up to the task.

14:10 Bass Rock

BASS ROCK was unable to complete the hat-trick at Haydock last month, but he ran creditably to finish third in a more competitive affair and he shaped better than the bare result to boot. Bass Rock, making his first start at 3m, travelled well and was produced to lead early in the straight, However, he was unable to fend off a couple of rivals who were ridden more patiently.

Bass Rock was probably closer than ideal to a strong pace and he is probably still ahead of the handicapper (the form of his previous win here has been well advertised).

14:40 Tommie Beau

TOMMIE BEAU completed a four-timer when successful at Fakenham in October and he ran as well as ever when a close-up second to a rival who had the advantage of the rail at Fontwell last month. That was only Tommie Beau’s second start over fences, so he is entitled to carry on improving, and he can bounce back to winning ways.

15:10 Fonzerelli

Irish point winner FONZERELLI disappointed on her bumper debut for Keith Dalgleish at Sedgefield last year, but she offered a lot more encouragement when runner-up over this course and distance in October, bumping into a decent prospect. She was up against the geldings on that occasion and now sets a decent standard in mares’ company.
