11:40 Donny Boy

Paddy The Horse made a solid start under rules when placed at Carlisle (2m4f) and that form has been franked since by runner-up Operation Overlord, while Fearless Action also ran well in defeat at Sedgefield. However, the Nick Alexander-trained DONNY BOY was deeply impressive, drawing clear of his rivals, when taking a Kelso bumper by an ever-extending margin. His future appears bright assuming that he proves equally adept over hurdles.

12:10 Geordies Dream

Lupus Regem comes with risks attached having hung right and run out at Uttoxeter last month and preference is for fellow bumper winner GEORDIES DREAM who is a likeable prospect and is taken to make a winning hurdle debut. Saryshagann and Stokes return from long absences but are interesting contenders nevertheless, and useful Flat performer Saryshagann on his first run for Sandy Thomson could be the chief threat to the selection.

12:40 Bestiarius

The very lightly raced 4yo Annies Prayer is an interesting contender on his handicap debut but slight preference is for BESTIARIUS, who made a bold bid at Hexham on his comeback last month and is a major player if he can build on that close third. Killane still has potential and could make a serious impact if he can stay focused on his drop back in trip, while others to consider are Leopolds Rock, Gamesters Icon and Wheelbahri.

13:10 Bird On The Wire

The hat-trick seeking Whoa Black Betty should be able to cope with dropping back in trip (from 2m7f) and her chance in a relatively modest contest is obvious. Quick Pick is feasibly weighted now reverting to hurdles and Goodtimes Badtimes could prove sharper on his second start for Sandy Thomson. However, the choice is BIRD ON THE WIRE who went so close to breaking his rules duck at Bangor in May.

13:45 Dragonfruit (NAP)

Most of these have something to prove but DRAGONFRUIT (nap) has won two of his five chase starts and he found more progress when runner-up in a Class 3 event at Ayr last month. He’s only 1lb higher today and drops back in grade. The main danger is course specialist Ascot De Bruyere, who is versatile trip-wise and is back on his last winning mark.

14:20 Pay The Piper

The bottom three are all some way out of the weights and this should revolve around Cornerstone Lad and PAY THE PIPER. The former ran well back in this sphere last month and should make a bold bid off a sliding mark but preference is for Ann Hamilton’s 6yo Pay The Piper. He’s run creditably behind smart rivals over longer trips in his last two runs and looks potentially well treated back in a 2m handicap.

14:50 Contemplatemyfaith

Hurdle debut winners Captain Quint and Crystal Glory are open to improvement, especially the former now he’s tackling a longer trip, but CONTEMPLATEMYFAITH receives weight from both of them and that tips things in his favour. He was third in a warm little novice hurdle at Lingfield last month and that form reads well.

15:20 Melvich Bay

Preference is for MELVICH BAY, who battled well when going close at Hexham on her debut in October and sets the standard on that form. Clear White Light was second over C&D in his final run last season and he’s feared most, although last month’s Thurles winner Imperial Lord is respected under a penalty on his stable debut. Horacio Apple’s and Haut Berry also enter the reckoning, while there are some newcomers who need checking in the market including Try Teescomponents who has numerous bumper winners in his pedigree.
