Donald McCain continues to fire in the winners and RICHMOND LAKE, who bolted up at Bangor on last month’s stable debut, can make it two out of two over hurdles. Convincing Sandown winner Bombs Away, who also carries a penalty, is feared most ahead of Irish raider Cirque Royal.

11:45 – Fairfield Ferrata

Landofsmiles has proved his stamina – the race will be over more than 3m1f – and his chasing form is so superior to today’s mark over hurdles. He must go well, despite having had 12 runs without any success over hurdles, the latest in October 2020. The added stamina test could bring about plenty of improvement in some of his rivals, though, with the handicap debutante FAIRFIELD FERRATA perhaps the most potent proposition. My Bobby Dazzler and High Moon are among the others who could raise their game over a new trip.

12:20 – Elimay

Irish mare ELIMAY is high class and a very sound jumper who nearly always gives her running. She should be extremely difficult to beat, even with Annie Mc defending an unbeaten five-race record in chases confined to her own sex.

12:55 – No Getaway

Paddy Power Gold Cup fifth Galahad Quest is a tempting option with today’s return to slow ground a possible plus, but preference is for the reappearing NO GETAWAY who has a fine record when fresh. Cosy Wetherby winner Palmers Hill is third choice, with the progressive Annual Invictus and last year’s winner Clan Legend others who could go well.

13:30 – White Pepper

Gavin Cromwell won this in 2015 and 2017 and has a strong contender today in the shape of WHITE PEPPER, who was impressive at Galway in October on her second hurdle start. Fellow Irish raiders Calvados, Sea Sessions and Six Feet Apart could all go well but Malakahna is feared most, having won in good style on her hurdle debut at Fakenham.

14:05 – Native River

Protektorat won the Grade 1 Manifesto Novices’ Chase over 2m4f here in April and there’s every chance this rising star will stay this far, but preference is for the proven stamina of NATIVE RIVER. The 2018 Gold Cup hero showed that he’s still a serious force at the age of 11 when winning the Grade 2 Cotswold Chase at Sandown in February, and he returns to action with his stable in fine form. Imperial Aura could also go well.

14:40 – Snow Leopardess

Vieux Lion Rouge finished first, seventh, second, ninth and first in the last five runnings of the Becher and the scale of his victory last season is hard to ignore. Of course he could go very well again, with last month’s reappearance run not dissimilar to the one he produced last term. The latest of several others to have left a favourable impression over these fences was Mac Tottie with his win four weeks ago in the 2m5f Grand Sefton. Among those who try their hand at this chase track for the first time, SNOW LEOPARDESS, Achille and Mighty Thunder all make appeal and Snow Leopardess, who brings as much potential as any in this field, looks just the type to put up a particularly bold show, so she may be the one to emerge on top, with Vieux Lion Rouge this time having to settle for second.

A red-hot finale featuring several unexposed and progressive types. Handicap newcomer TAMAR BRIDGE (nap) could be quite a bit better than his opening mark, however, and he is the selection ahead of Pounding Poet, who remains open to further improvement. Midnight River and Carys’ Commodity could also be well handicapped.
