16:00 Ecclesiastical

A very competitive handicap and a couple pf these horses come here in good form. No Speed Limit and Kings View for the P.J. McKenna team have both done well in recent weeks, as has Meishar for the James McAuley team. He’s been a revelation at Dundalk in recent months.

However, there’s a lot of pace in this race with at least three if not four front runners in it. I’m going to go for a horse that will love that set up and it’s Ecclesiastical.

Trained by Tom McCourt, he’s had five starts on the all weather at Dundalk, he’s won, been second twice, and ran well on the other occasions. If those front runners take each other on, he loves passing horses when they go quick and it could suit him very well.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

16:30 Rene Artois (NAP)

There’s a couple of interesting newcomers in the race. They’re both going to have to be smart to beat my NAP of the day because Rene Artois‘ run last time at Leopardstown reads very well in the context of this race. He’s also trialed well at Dundalk in the past. A repeat of his last run should make him very hard to beat.

17:00 Tyrconnell

This is ultra-competitive and you can actually make a case for six or seven horses at least but I’m going to go for one that shaped very well on the track on his comeback runs, it’s Tyrconnell.

He’s got a very good draw in stall 1, he’s a multiple winner at the track in the past, there’s a lot of pace in this race which should see him go very well. Freescape and Sister Lola are both in good form, but Tyrconnell’s last run will do me.

17:30 Helen De Pourtales

The top horse, Ampeson, is going to be very popular, trained by Pat Murphy, a ready winner last seen here on the track. He’s only gone up 5lbs for winning on that occasion. However, he’s drawn out wide in stall 12 tonight.

I’m going to go for one drawn low and that’s Helen De Pourtales trained by James McAuley. They’re having a great time of things on this track in recent weeks. Helen De Pourtales ran extremely well when last seen here from a wide draw to finish 3rd.

She’s a dual winner at the track last year and she’s dropping down in grade and, for me, with that good draw, she’s going to be the value.

18:00 Persian Wolf

I’m going to go for the Ed Lynam trained runner, Persian Wolf. He’s had three starts to date and finished behind two of his market rivals on his last start here, however, he was a big eye catcher with a young claimer riding. Declan McDonogh’s on tonight and I think he’ll be all the better for that comeback run.

He rates as value to take on the top two in the betting. Keep an eye out for market movement for the Johnny Murtagh trained newcomer No Nay Alexander who is interesting in breeding. But, for me, Persian Wolf is the value tonight.

18:30 Golden Twilight

I’m going to stick with Golden Twilight who did us a very good turn here a couple of weeks ago when he won. He did extremely well to win on that occasion, he’s only gone up 5lbs in the weight, I think he’s open to more improvement than a lot of his rivals and he’ll take quite a bit of beating again here tonight.

19:00 No Show

There’s going to be a couple popular with punters, Scarlet Seymour and Joupe both won at the track last time. However, I’m going for a horse that was placed here recently and that’s No Show.

Trained in Co Cork by Jimmy Mangan, this horse was a good winner at Clonmel a couple of starts ago and didn’t get the best run when placed up here recently. I think he’s the horse to beat and I think he’s value to take on the top two in the betting.

19:30 Dr Patrick

We have to stick with Dr Patrick. I can’t believe he got beaten the last day! He got pipped by his stable companion late on. I still think he’s open to further improvement and he’s the one to beat here tonight.

Alhaajeb, trained by Aiden McGuinness with Colin Keane taking the ride, will be very popular. But, for me, Dr Patrick is the best horse in this race and he wins.
