15:45 Stay Smart

Fine Wine had four of today’s rivals directly behind over C&D early in the month and it’s hard to pick between the quintet on revised terms. Fellow recent C&D winner Ballyare should go well again off a 5lb higher mark but the O’Meara yard could barely be in better form and STAY SMART (nap), who’s 2lb below his last winning mark and showed more back from wind surgery last week, is taken to extend the good run. The lightly raced Ubahha is also worth considering back down in trip and fitted with a first-time hood.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

16:15 Naval Captain

It wasn’t much of a novice that NAVAL CAPTAIN won over C&D three weeks ago, with the exposed and limited Tantastic only being nabbed on the line, but he badly needed the experience and could well improve enough to defy a penalty. Must Be Royale, who’s taking another drop in trip, and Dance At Night, are the obvious dangers.

16:45 Lead Story

A number of these tend to be ridden patiently, notably Millionaire Waltz, who’s chasing a C&D four-timer upped another 6lb, and they wouldn’t be certain to get this run to suit, while Oso Rapido will want to settle better back up from 6f. Maywake has claims but a 2lb rise for LEAD STORY’s C&D win looks fair and she can follow up.

17:15 Proclaimer

Broctune Red improved his record over C&D to 5-11 when winning off a 2lb lower mark four weeks ago and should go well again, but this is stronger. Masked Identity did well to get up at Wolverhampton over the weekend and has claims under a penalty, but PROCLAIMER has gone up less than a stone for four straight wins this autumn and can go in again.

17:45 Sharrabang

Oriental Lilly had three of tonight’s rivals behind when notching course win number six early in the month and she’s shortlisted off a 2lb higher mark, along with Morty who’s chasing a seven-day hat-trick under a double penalty. Country Charm is another to consider but the vote goes to SHARRABANG, whose turf win in the spring came after a similar break.

Newcastle all weather

18:15 Blazing Hot

The most interesting runner is BLAZING HOT, a big player if new trainer Grant Tuer can get him back in anything like the same form he was in for James Tate last year. Redzone is clear second choice. Jet Set Go, Atrafan and Lancashire Life can battle it out for minor honours.

18:45 Hurstwood

Masquerading and Patontheback are 3yo handicap newcomers with the potential to do better but the C&D handicap 22 days ago in which Fircombe Hall finished ahead of Paddy Power and HURSTWOOD may prove the key formline. Fircombe Hall is greatly respected but the money that came for Hurstwood on that occasion was striking and as things panned out he was unable to show his best. He can bounce back today. One Last Hug comes with risks attached but he has the ability to play a big role if getting away on terms.

19:15 Dajarus

A trappy event in which several of the field have something to recommend them. Maggie’s Joy, Jabbar, Wheal Kitty, Black Echo and Alphonse Le Grande are all considered but DAJARUS may be the answer. A winner here two starts back, she turned in another solid effort at Wolverhampton ten days ago and there could be more to come over this extra furlong.
