This return to maiden company provides a good opportunity for KAVANAGHS CROSS, who has performed with significant credit in two handicaps this autumn. Ask The Doc, Wolf Run and Creative Control have all shown enough to suggest they can win over hurdles sooner rather than later and, of that group, the last-named appeals most.
A market move for chasing debutante Tanora will spice things up a bit but, otherwise, it’s probably best to focus on the two last-time-out winners. Kaphumor dominated at Hexham 18 days ago and has plenty of scope for further progress but REGABY gained his recent success over C&D, and his proven affinity for this track tips the scales in his favour.

Obey The Rules displayed a willing attitude to prevail at Hereford at the start of this month and he did very little wrong when second at Ludlow soon afterwards but slight preference is for SIX ONE NINE, who began his chasing career with a win and a second over C&D in the spring and can hopefully build upon last month’s satisfactory reappearance run at Kelso.
Pretty good cases can be made for a few of these but top of the list is LORD CAPRIO (nap), who couldn’t quite reel in Baraboy after making significant ground from the rear at Hexham recently but remains on a workable mark. Recent C&D winner Wilhelm Vonvenster remains lightly raced over hurdles and is feared most.
The most interesting runner is AIRE VALLEY LAD, who was a very creditable fourth behind three useful rivals in a 2m novice chase here in May and is very well handicapped if judged on that performance. Lady Chuffnell signed off with a duff effort over hurdles in May but might be dangerous if back on song for today’s chasing debut. Dalkingstown is well handicapped but may need a stiffer stamina test.
Respected Flat trainer Kevin Ryan has an excellent strike-rate with his occasional hurdle runners and today’s faster ground ought to enable his SPIRITOFTHENORTH to progress from last month’s C&D second. Kendancer didn’t fire here 12 days ago but the form of his Ballinrobe win in August makes him of significant interest and, once again, he’s Daryl Jacob’s only ride on the card. Findthetime is also a key player.
