12:30 – Yggdrasil
He needs to show fences a bit more respect than he did the Newton Abbot hurdles on his recent return, but otherwise YGGDRASIL (nap) is a very intriguing proposition, contesting the same race his subsequently smart half-brother (of very similar ability as a hurdler) landed for Nick Williams as a four-year-old back in 2017. Happy News (3-4 in handicap chases over 2m4f) and dual Southwell scorer Do It For Thy Sen, both in career-best form when last seen, round off the shortlist.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
13:00 – The Glancing Queen
Having fared best of the British when fifth in the Grade 2 mares’ novice hurdle at Cheltenham in March, point winner THE GLANCING QUEEN is the pick on this first run over fences. Maskada ran really well when third behind two useful males on last month’s chase debut at Uttoxeter and is second choice, ahead of the Grade 2 novice hurdle winner Emmas Joy who is returning from a long absence.
13:30 – Snow Leopardess
The likes of Belami Des Pictons, Beware The Bear and especially Blaklion are interesting on form from two or three seasons ago, and market support for any one of them would be noteworthy, but a safer choice is SNOW LEOPARDESS who attained a useful standard in her first season over fences and may do better still this term. Falco Blitz, one of four 7yos in the line-up, could be unexposed over 3m and may pose the main threat.
14:00 – Painless Potter
The lack of a recent run tempers confidence to an extent with Book Of Secrets given he’d fought the rider on each of his final two Flat starts, and in the circumstances it may prove safer to give another chance to PAINLESS POTTER, grandson of Fred Winter heroine Silk Affair and likely better than a lost shoe proved him capable of demonstrating on his hurdling debut.
14:30 – Hermes Boy
This looks an excellent opportunity for HERMES BOY, who caught the eye when keeping on for second on last month’s hurdle debut at Worcester. Whenthepennydrops showed promise in a bumper at Ascot on her sole run for Kayley Woollacott and is feared most now going hurdling for Dan Skelton. Richmond Lake could also run well for the bang-in-form Donald McCain.
15:00 – Goobinator
The prolific Donald McCain can celebrate another winner thanks to GOOBINATOR, who has been in fine form in this hood on the Flat in the second half of the year. The veteran Hunters Call may be the chief danger as he’s on a competitive mark on last season’s form and goes well fresh. At the foot of the weights, the progressive pair Bucko’s Boy and Isthebaropen are others who could go well.
15:30 – Universal Dave
The higher achiever of the two who ran between the flags at Fairyhouse in April, and convincing in victory in a Fontwell hurdle since, UNIVERSAL DAVE is taken to overcome both the penalty and The Boola Boss. The latter nevertheless commands appreciable respect representing a yard with a strong strike-rate over hurdles here, and is favoured over Barrichello and On The Bandwagon, neither of whom enter the race with a progressive profile.
