We shook things up this week with a special episode of our From The Horse’s Mouth podcast as we let listeners quiz our brains trust of Ruby Walsh, Frank Hickey and Paddy Power himself on all the big racing subjects.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
One listener asked Paddy’s top trader Frank to dish out his top antepost tip for next year’s Cheltenham Festival and he more than delivered with a big-priced punt to consider for your shortlist…
You know I’m not certain which race he’ll run in – I think it’ll be the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle – but I really liked Gerri Colombe winning his bumpers last year. He’s a really, really good horse.
With Kilcruit going for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, Gerri Colombe’s a big price for the Ballymore and I’d take a flyer that Journey With Me for the same owners will go for the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle.
Gerri Colombe screams class to me and he’s a massive price.
For me, with antepost betting I like to take a chance on ones at massive prices that potentially go off short than playing 6/1 or 5/1 shots that might go off 2/1. That’s my personal preference.
If you’re looking at the Marsh Novices’ Chase and you’re looking at Bob Olinger. If he can jump then most horses will try and avoid him this year and he’ll go off extremely short. If you’re looking for something short that will go off really short he’d come to mind.
I might be interested in backing Echoes In Rain for the Champion Hurdle before this weekend because she looks like she could be the danger to Honeysuckle and it’s not the deepest division. If she does avoid Honeysuckle until Cheltenham you could easily see her being the second favourite at 4/1 or 7/2.
