Philip Kirby saddled the first two home in this last year, with Wemyss Point chasing home a better-fancied stablemate, and Lord Torranaga holds leading claims, albeit he’ll need to settle better going beyond 1m5f for the first time. Stockbridge Tap and Romulan Prince also have stamina to prove and the vote goes to the consistent VICTORIANO, who had Manjaam behind when winning over C&D last time.
An expensive failure on her Kempton debut in the summer, PHILOSOPHY did much better in the hood and tongue-tie combination last month and will appreciate the return to sprinting on that evidence. Irish 1,000 Guineas entrant Hooked On You is the obvious danger if she settles better this time.
Invasive should do better, back down from 7f into a less-competitive novice on her AW debut, but AZURE BLUE sets the standard they’re all gunning for on either of her late-summer seconds. Khurumbi, who’s a half-sister to two useful winners for the Bethell yard, is an interesting newcomer.

Bryan Smart has a couple of live chances courtesy of Instinction, who did well in the spring prior to pulling away her chances when last seen four months ago, and Thin Lizzy, who had Monsieur Kodi and the well-backed Queen Spirit behind at Catterick a fortnight ago. The ex-Irish Reigning Profit has decent claims at the weights if coping with the drop from 7f but this can go to DREAMS OF THUNDER, who ran with credit behind a useful winner last time and has a much better chance on these terms.
Having found only the highly progressive Pocket The Profit too strong in three nursery starts, Brazen Akoya is the obvious starting point, upped a fair 3lb for her latest all-the-way C&D win. However, the less exposed EY UP ITS THE BOSS (nap) showed much more back from a break at Redcar, when he had to do plenty early to get over to the far rail from stall 18, and he’s preferred.
The combination of wind surgery, switch to Tapeta and step up in trip has done the trick with VINTAGE POLLY, who’s very likely to fluff the start again but is well up to winning off this mark on the evidence of last Friday’s unlucky C&D third, when she had Perfect Soldier just behind. Tefnut, who came away with a subsequent winner over C&D last time, and former sprinter Royal Prospect, who ran well back from a break over this trip last Tuesday, are others with decent claims.
In an open race a chance is taken with the ex-Irish SIR SEDRIC, who has shown his best form on the AW and has the benefit of a high draw. Tamaska, who has a visor on for the first time, is another with good claims.
Having looked as though he is returning to his best with a good run here last time, C&D winner KILCONQUHAR is taken to beat last week’s winner The Grey Bay and the well-handicapped Gorgeous General.
