It could be worth chancing COUNT MERIBEL. It’s been a while since he’s run to his best form, but the handicapper has given him a huge chance ahead of a rare run over hurdles, and his good record fresh bodes well. His stablemate Beauport is obviously a lot safer on paper having run his rivals ragged in the EBF Novices’ Final here when last seen. Champagne Court and Broken Halo are also considered.

13:00 Minella Trump

The thriving MINELLA TRUMP completed a five-timer (last four over fences) off this mark at Sedgefield three weeks ago with plenty in hand, clearly thriving, and he holds obvious claims at a track which should suit his style. Fifty Ball progressed into a smart hurdler last season and should make a chaser, while O Connell Street is worth another chance to confirm the form of his easy Perth win.

13:35 Lavorante

A few in with chances but the vote goes to LAVORANTE for trainer Gary Moore. He showed plenty of promise when finishing third on his hurdling debut at Fontwell back in March and, given that form is working out, he is taken to score at the second time of asking with improvement expected for an in-form yard. Olly Murphy also has a leading chance with Bombs Away, who finished runner-up in a bumper last time, taken as the biggest threat.

14:10 Chantry House

CHANTRY HOUSE developed into a very smart chaser last season, winning four of his five starts, and was possibly feeling the effects of a big run at Cheltenham previously when left with a Grade 1 at his mercy at Aintree in April. However, his record under Rules is hard to knock, and he can come out on top up against The Big Breakaway, who was shaping encouragingly prior to falling on return at Newton Abbot last month, and the step back up to three miles is a positive.

14:45 Hudson De Grugy

HUDSON DE GRUGY did nothing but improve for Gary Moore last term, winning two of his four starts over hurdles, and beaten by a potentially smart type in a competitive handicap last time. He is fancied to bag a third course and distance victory on his return from eight months off with his yard among the winners. On To Victory arrives fit from the Flat and still has few miles on the clock in this sphere so is feared most, although both Will Sting and For Langy can have a say too in an intriguing handicap.

MR MAFIA comes here in rare form having won three of his last four starts, the latest in particularly convincing fashion, so he is fancied to take care of the business again and bag another victory for a yard firmly among the winners. Vivas has to go back to 2019 for his last success but is feared most on the back of his good Chepstow second. Gwencily Berbas appeals as the pick of the remaining veterans.

15:45 Salt Of The Earth

SALT OF THE EARTH has already tasted success in points, and he should be more wound up than the bulk of his rivals given his stable, so he gets the nod in what could prove to be a hot contest. Sandalwood also makes plenty of appeal on paper, while Revasser deserves respect despite being penalised for his Warwick success 6 months ago.
