Intriguing Lady is solid but she doesn’t set the bar that high and JILMOD has shown enough in difficult company to think he can make a mark now that he goes handicapping, for a yard that has an excellent 29% (17-58) strike-rate with 2yos here. Hilary’s Boy couldn’t carry on the good work at Yarmouth last week but he did well to win at Chelmsford previously and should stay 7f.

A case can be made for most of the runners on their best form. Preference for BERYL THE PERIL is only marginal but there should be a race in her, after she got much closer at Chelmsford to breaking her duck on her second start for her up-and-coming yard. Strategic Fortune looks the main danger after losing out late on at Kempton, as Bare Grils is not sure to be suited by the return to 7f after his convincing 6f win here. Rainbow Mirage is one of several others to consider.
18:00 Split Elevens
Although hardly one for maximum faith SPLIT ELEVENS did run well behind a handicap blot at Chelmsford last time and was successful off 6lb higher here at the end of 2020 so he could be the way to go. Itsallaboutluck has been knocking on the door over slightly further here lately and is second choice ahead of recent Kempton second/third River Chorus and Quarter Blue.
18:30 Flora Finch
The leading contender is Roger Varian’s FLORA FINCH, who just about sets the standard on her close call at Chelmsford and is open to progress on this step up in trip. Lyrical Lady found plenty of improvement with her runner-up effort at Lingfield and she’s feared most, though Themoonsaballoon made a promising start at Pontefract and could make a big impact if she can build on that. The most interesting newcomer is Mark Johnston’s Magnetic Field.
19:00 Just Amber (NAP)
Preference is for Clive Cox’s lightly raced 3yo JUST AMBER (nap), who got off the mark with a comfortable win in a 1m handicap at Bath 12 days ago and is open to further progress on her return to Tapeta. The other last-time-out winner Busby is feared most, though Light Up Our Stars turned things around with a close call here last time and is respected. Another to consider is Aviary, who returned to form with a clear second behind the selection last Monday.

19:30 Invincible Soldier
Clive Cox’s INVINCIBLE SOLDIER scored in good style over C&D on his penultimate run and he had an excuse on his step up to 1m4f last time. This well-bred 3yo could resume his progress back at this trip and he gets the vote ahead of Billy Roberts, who won at Beverley last month and is 4lb lower here on his return to AW. Le Bayou has claims if he can transfer his turf form back to Tapeta, while another who could have a big part to play is Trusty Scout.
20:00 Seixas
The majority of these are going to have to find something very new if they are to get involved and SEIXAS looks the most likely winner after winning in good style over C&D last month. Patontheback is the main danger, having run well for a long way in a better race at Newcastle and likely to be suited by the drop to 5f.
20:30 Tazaman
True Romance didn’t get any luck at Catterick in his last Flat run and is strongly respected back in this sphere, but slight preference is for the 4yo improver TAZAMAN, who has won here and at Kempton in two of his last three starts and still looks feasibly treated. Baileys Warrior and Graces Quest finished close up in a C&D handicap 12 days ago and have claims, while another to consider is Sophosc, who was only just caught by the selection on his penultimate run.
