Wetherby 13.20 – Tanarpino

ITV Racing Saturday gets underway here with a handicap chase over an extended 2m3f. A wide-open event. Gericault could be chucked in on chase debut for David Pipe, as could Revels Hill for Harry Fry. I’ll risk the experienced TANARPINO for Jennie Candlish and Sean Quinlan. The recent Bangor winner is actually still well handicapped on his best form and has crucial experience which must count for something. Trip and ground are ideal so worth an each-way wager.

Ascot 13.35 – Kid Commando

ITV are also at Ascot with a handicap chase over 2m3f. Some promising horses in here and plenty of them making their chase debut. KID COMMANDO is a point to point winner which gives hope he can jump even though his hurdling was not always amazing. What we do know about my selection is that he’s a talented front-running hurdler at his best and if he gets his own way will be hard to peg back under Rex Dingle.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Wetherby 13.55 – Miranda

This is a Listed Mares’ Hurdle over 2m. Molly Ollys Wishes is super tough, but the one to beat must be MIRANDA for champion Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden. The selection has to give 2lb to the Skelton runner, but she’s been a 140+ horse for a few runs now and was a fine winner at Doncaster in January of this year. Provided she’s ready to roll after being absent since March the daughter of Camelot should be hard to beat.

Ascot 14.10 – Megan

A handicap hurdle over nearly 2m. MEGAN has not had much luck recently falling at Chepstow and pulling up at Doncaster. However, her run at the Welsh track suggested she’s not terribly handicapped off 120 and she should have an each-way chance here if her jumping stands up for Stuart Edmunds and Ciaran Gethings. This trip is ideal.

Wetherby 14.30 – Paisley Park

Grade 2 company this time with some classy hurdlers over 3m. PAISLEY PARK looks a massive price in this and would be long odds on in my book. Only three runs ago Emma Lavelle’s star defeated Thyme Hill at Ascot and he was a fine third in the Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham. He was pulled up at Aintree when last seen, but that track was never going to suit him. This is not quite as tight and he should just be too good under Aidan Coleman.

Ascot 14.45 – Editeur Du Gite

Another Listed handicap chase here over 2m1f. EDITEUR DU GITE might be able to defy a stiff handicap mark here as he will have many at it from the front with a mile to run. The Gary Moore runner – ridden by son Jamie – ended off last season in tremendous shape and he’s shown to be a really good jumper at a strong gallop.

Down Royal 14.50 – Minella Indo

ITV also go to Northern Ireland for the Grade 1 Champion Chase over 3m. MINELLA INDO has not always got everything together but he did in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham and on that form he is clearly the one to beat. Rachael Blackmore rides for Henry de Bromhead and they should get a good lead from King George winner Frodon for much of the race.

Wetherby 15.05 – Clondaw Castle

A feature event here in the Grade 2 Charlie Hall Chase over 3m. CLONDAW CASTLE improved and stepped up to this trip last season and might be able of an upset for Tom George and Jonathan Burke. His success at Kempton two runs ago was impressive and he went on to chase home Clan des Obeaux at Aintree at a distance of twenty-six lengths. Clearly getting only 2lb from a peak form Cyrname will be tough and the latter has had a wind operation. But Cyrname has only completed once in his last four starts and I have to take him on.

Ascot 15.20 – Mister Malarky

Competitive stuff with a handicap chase over 3m. A race I will take a chance in at a price with MISTER MALARKY for Colin Tizzard and Harry Kimber who takes off 7lb. My selection has always had plenty of ability and is capable of performing off a mark of 151. Obviously much depends on what mood the horse is in, but he has had a spin recently which hopefully might have blown away a few cobwebs. The added hope is that the Tizzard stable will be in better form this term than last.

Wetherby 15.40 – Our Surprise

Handicap hurdle time over an extended 2m3f. OUR SURPRISE could be well in for Harry Fry and Daryl Jacob. The lightly-raced six-year-old is on a second run after a wind operation and has been dropped 4lb for being defeated as the 5/4 favourite at Fontwell when last seen. The trip and going should be ideal and having just been in action four times, he should be capable of better.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
