While Silks Pass won a race in the spring and Swashbuckler showed significant ability much more recently, they may prove vulnerable to YANTARNI and Soulcombe who are very well-bred newcomers from top yards. Other strong stables are also represented.
The chances of FILISTINE justifying favouritism on his debut here four weeks ago looked very bright indeed for most of the race and he is selected to go one better. Godolphin newcomer Silent Speech is feared most, although Nuvolari was a promising debut winner at Epsom and Vee Sight can improve again.
Bahrain Pride in particular is respected after his encouraging return on the all-weather, but the big two-year-old weight allowance swings the vote to ELDRICKJONES, who will be suited by the likely strong pace and this stiff finish. Spycatcher comes into it on his best form, but he wasn’t at his best when last seen on the other course in July and Bahrain Pride is preferred for the forecast.
Desert Dreamer has held her form well through a busy first season and looks sure to go well, but she is up against some potential improvers – including BENEFIT who has looked better the further she’s gone in two 6-furlong starts and should be able to make her mark at this level.
Pennine Hills was game over 7 furlongs at Leopardstown last time, but she may need that extra furlong now. Red Lacewing didn’t entirely impress on her debut, however was more convincing when winning at Naas next time and is preferred of the remainder.
Whitehaven showed a major strength in stamina when upped to 2m at Haydock last time. He cannot be opposed at all lightly, but has been raised 6lbs and will probably not get soft or heavy ground today.
Perhaps good to soft would be okay for him, however he has that to prove and has regularly been withdrawn because of unsuitable ground (mostly good) this season. The upwardly mobile ROYAUME UNI looks a fair alternative following his impressive win over hurdles last time. Galahad Threepwood also has a shout.
The lightly raced Godolphin runners MOVING LIGHT and Neptune Seas hold intriguing possibilities, and a chance is taken that the former will return with all guns blazing from his year off. Neptune Seas could raise his game, which is needed, on the step back up in trip. Kattani and Bad Company may prove best of the rest.
Well treated under a penalty and very interesting with the step up in trip as well, THE NU FORM WAY (NAP) can complete his hat-trick. Kasperenko is feared most following a resurgent display for his new stable last time, with Saratoga Gold third on the list although others should also be considered.
Quite a few ifs and mights among the runners, but GODDESS OF FIRE has been in cracking form and by no means threw in the towel when headed under a penalty in a 0-100 here last week. She has another big run in her off 3lbs lower.
Masked Identity’s finishing was disappointing over 7 furlongs last week, but he caught the eye over 1m the time before and is considered, along with Geminga on her handicap debut. Lockerbie is now returned to 1m, while Assembled took a step back in the right direction on the all-weather last time.
