13:45 – Party Central

Willie Mullins has dominated this Grade 3 Mares Novice Hurdle over the past decade having won four of the past seven renewals. The Closutton team saddle Purple Mountain with the daughter of Beat Hollow progressing from bumpers to win back to back races over hurdles. However, she was a fortunate winner at Tipperary earlier this month when a fall at the last from San Salvador handed her victory when perhaps looking best for second.

PARTY CENTRAL was miles ahead of the Mullins mare in a listed bumper won by Grangee at Leopardstown in February and receives 7lbs from Purple Mountain in this race. She travelled and jumped nicely when winning her maiden hurdle at Listowel last month and a drop back in trip won’t be an issue. Glan won in game fashion at Fairyhouse and could be overpriced for Elliott, while Impervious needed every yard of the trip at Listowel and might not be suited by the in distance.

14:20 – Cask Mate

The WKD Hurdle is an interesting match-bet between CASK MATE for Noel Meade and the Gordon Elliott trained Zanahiyr. The Elliott runner is rated 7lbs superior on official ratings and comes out slightly better at the weights in this contest, giving just 5lbs to his older rival on his seasonal return. Cask Mate improved superbly last season having returned from over a 1,000-day absence to win at Limerick and Punchestown last October before finishing second in the Royal Bond at Fairyhouse.

He had a break after that run before reappearing at Leopardstown when well beaten behind Appreciate It at the Dublin Racing Festival. He might be up against a progressive youngster but his recent victory on at the flat at Bellewstown gives him race fitness with Noel Meade also having a line on the ability of Zanahiyr from Jeff Kidder’s victory at Punchestown. It could get tactical, but Cask Mate just edges it for me with stamina in his locker against a rival who just might need the run.

14:55 – Temptationinmilan

TEMPTATIONINMILAN looks the most progressive of these runners in the 3-mile handicap hurdle and looks primed to strike for Charles Byrnes. The five-year-old showed improvement in form under Jack Foley when returning from a break to finish sixth at Listowel last month. Another encouraging run came under Donnie McInerney at Sligo last week when staying on for third place as a beaten favourite off the same mark of 94.

Jack Foley returns to the saddle on Friday with a just a 1lb improved rating to 95 with another entry in the book at Fairyhouse next Tuesday. The son of Milan ticks a lot of boxes and will certainly appreciate a step-up in trip from what we’ve seen from those recent runs. Outside The Door is the biggest danger having won at Listowel while first reserve Vee Dancer is very intriguing now stepping up in trip with any market support for Ronal McNally’s runner being a positive sign to his chances.

15:30 – Beacon Edge

Gordon Elliott has won the last five renewals of this Beginners Chase and runs the lightly raced Grand Paradis this year. The Michael Purcell Memorial Hurdle winner looks an interesting recruit to chasing after just four career starts but faces some classy hurdlers from last season on his debut over fences. BEACON EDGE gets the verdict here having been rated the best of these runners over hurdles for Noel Meade and Gigginstown team.

The seven-year-old won two graded races over hurdles and was only beaten 3/4 of a length by Honeysuckle in last years Hatton’s Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse. His fourth in the Stayers Hurdle before an unlucky fall when moving into the race at Punchestown reads well and he’ll take a lot of beaten if transferring that form to fences. Albert Barlett winner Vanillier is another classy horse in what looks a very strong race.

16:35 – Sundrenched

Gordon Elliott has won four of the last six renewals of this closing bumper and it’s perhaps a tip in itself that Jamie Codd has jumped ship from Lieutenant Highway to ride The Mediator. Codd has ridden the previous two winners of this race for Elliott, Pencilfulloflead and Chemical Energy who both won first time up in this race. However, the son of Maxios will have to be smart on debut to beat SUNDRENCHED who has some excellent form in the book from last season.

The Jimmy Lambe trained runner won his bumper at Navan last September before finishing a creditable fourth and fifth behind both Letsbeclearaboutit (Fairyhouse) and Kilcruit (Punchestown) back in April. Declan Lavery once again takes the ride with that effort in Grade 1 company clearly jumping off the page against this opposition. Elsewhere, Lisa O’Neill now takes the ride on Lieutenant Highway who should run well having finished third in a sprint finish at Punchestown.
