CHIRICAHUA can secure compensation for connections after a late fall at the last when sent off favourite at Listowel on his hurdles debut at the end of September. The Paul Nolan-trained runner ran keenly from the front before been headed and coming down at the last, with Radaniche once again in opposition. Gordon Elliott’s runner finished second on that occasion and is on the shortlist as the main danger to our selection in my opinion.
Chirichaua ran well on the level and was once third to Thunder Kiss earlier this year before victories off 85 and 90 at Killarney and Leopardstown on the Flat. He should provide Nolan with another win in this race at his local track and I’d imagine Cooper will look for a little cover before striking late in the closing stages.
This looks a competitive race which can go the way of THE BOSSES OSCAR on a second career start over fences for Gordon Elliott and Davy Russell. The son of Oscar was a consistent performer over hurdles having previously been placed behind Flooring Porter and Mrs Milner. His debut second over fences to Busselton at Listowel reads well, with Joseph O’Brien’s runner subsequently scoring again at Cork last weekend.
Sams Profile disappointed on both previous starts over fences with Sixshooter looking the main danger. The Gigginstown runner always looked a chasing type, but might be up against it with the Culterra House team winning the last three renewals of this race.
This 2-mile maiden hurdle has been an excellent race for favourite backers in recent years and one Gordon Elliott has targeted well with two victories in the past four seasons. This race won’t take much winning on paper and MR FRED ROGERS looks good enough to score on a first start over hurdles for Elliott following success in a point-to-point bumper for William Murphy in March.
The son of Sholokhov took that race nicely and won’t have any issue with dropping slightly back in trip. L’impertinent and Upping The Anti look the biggest dangers and should improve from recent starts for Enda Bolger and Henry de Bromhead to be amongst the placings.
J.P McManus has a strong hand with four declared runners running in his famous green and gold silks in this 2m 6f handicap chase at Galway on Sunday. Sir Bob will be popular returning to fences for the in-form Robert Tyner, while Wake Up Early is another interesting contender having previously won over course and distance for McManus.
However, PAIRC NA NGAEL has recent fitness on his side and should go close for Charles Byrnes now stepping up in trip under Luke Dempsey. The seven-year-old should be spot on for his comeback run at Tipperary earlier this month and any market support from this stable would be a very encouraging sign.
BIRDIE BLITZ produced a lovely performance when finishing fourth on return from a break at Galway earlier this month and can land this handicap hurdle for JP McManus. Simon Torrens gets on extremely well with Aidan Howard’s grey having previously scored off a 3Ibs lower mark at Fairyhouse last year.
A small step up in trip along with more fitness on her side should see the daughter of Milan go very close to victory off an unchanged rating of 98. Dympnas Well could prove the main threat once forgiving a poor run at Listowel with Jordan Gainford taking off 5Ibs to help the chances of Paul Nolan’s runner.
