Horse Racing tips: Ruby Walsh’s super selections for Saturday’s ITV Racing

Ruby has studied the form at Cheltenham, Newbury and Doncaster so you don't have to.

13:45 Cheltenham – Samba Dancer

This is a pretty tough race to call. Paul Nicholls’ Samarrive tops the betting but I’m not sure his runners are as fit as they should be at the moment. He had a couple of runners at Chepstow a couple of weeks ago and it looked like they needed the trip. That might be part of the plan to make them last longer throughout the season but I’ll take Samba Dancer on the basis that he should be fitter.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

14:00 Newbury – Noble Truth

I can’t see past Noble Truth for Charlie Appleby, with James Doyle on board. He was second behind Angel Bleu in the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp earlier this month. That will be enough to win here.

14:35 Newbury – Ilaraab

Siskany could be a Group 1 horse in the making and he’s getting 6lbs from Ilaraab. However, I’m just siding with Ilaraab for William Haggas. He sets the standard in this race.

14:55 Cheltenham – Tritonic

Tritonic beat Stepney Causeway at Ascot earlier this year and the latter hasn’t ran since April. I don’t see how Stepney Causeway can turn the form around. It’s Tritonic’s race to lose. He had a couple of runs on the flat and he’s a better jumper now too.

15:15 Doncaster – Sissoko (each way)

I’m going for Sissoko for Aidan O’Brien, who I watched beat Sun King at the Curragh last week. He’s a good each-way shout and he can take on the likes of Luxembourg and Bayside Boy.

15:30 Cheltenham – Sky Pirate

Sky Pirate is very hard to oppose in this one as it’s nearly impossible to find another runner in this race who can beat him. Sky Pirate is the most likely winner but that’s based on what’s below him, not necessarily how good he is.

15:50 Doncaster – Gold Medal

It’s very easy to see why Flaming Rib is the favourite and he’s probably entitled to be rated 108. However, you then look at Deodar, Gold Medal and Parisiac to see if they can beat Flaming Rib and I’ve landed on Gold Medal. I like the way he won at Wolverhampton in September and he could take a step forward here.

16:05 Cheltenham – Born Patriot

I’ve fancy Born Patriot for Kevin Sexton and Peter Fahey. He had a nice run behind Tullybeg at Navan in September and Born Patriot could have come on a lot since that run. It’s worth taking on Tullybeg and Panic Attack at the top of the betting.

16:20 Doncaster – Indian Sounds (each way)

I like Indian Sounds for Ben Robinson and Paul Midgley. He ran well on soft ground at Musselburgh only last week. He got beat by a nose and he handles the ground so he’ll do me!
