14:00 Newbury – Light Infantry

LIGHT INFANTRY looked very good when winning on his racecourse debut at Yarmouth, sauntering clear for an impressive victory and didn’t look fully extended. He will need to have improved another good bit from that to get past Noble Truth though, who has already dipped his toe into strong Group 1 company in France.

It’s very unlikely that trainer David Simcock would throw him straight into Group 3 company after a debut success if he wasn’t pleasing him at home. He must be showing the right signs to pitch up here on just his second start.

14:35 Newbury – Max Vega

MAX VEGA looked very unlucky not to land a massive pot up in the Ebor at York, when continuously denied a clear run in the straight. The ground had gone against him at HQ last time, where it was just too lively as he loves to leave a hoofprint.

The forecast is for very heavy conditions at Newbury, which will suit his style down to the ground. Admittedly, Charlie Appleby’s Siskany will be a tough nut to crack and also has a liking for soft ground. However, it could be extremely soft or heavy ground and he’s unproven on that.

15:15 Doncaster – Bayside Boy

BAYSIDE BOY‘s already a course winner at Doncaster beating Reach For The Moon, hitting the line strongly back then in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes over 7 furlongs in September. He went on to put up a very good performance behind Native Trail in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket, having looked outpaced at the bottom of the dip, but hit the line strongly again.

Both runs suggest that he will surely improve for the step up to the mile trip now. Luxembourg is all the rage, however he just carries himself a little bit awkwardly for me and may prove better next season when he’s strengthened up a bit.

15:50 Doncaster – Deodar

DEODAR looked really good when winning on his racecourse debut at Newbury when getting a smooth run up towards the stands rail and always looking in control. The second that day, Witch Hunter, has gone on and proved himself very competitive at Listed level, so this looks a perfect stepping stone on Deodar’s climb up the ladder. The ground should be ideal, and he has the services of Ryan Moore in the saddle.

16:20 Doncaster – Lahore

Philip Makin’s LAHORE has finally slipped down to a rating of 90 where he has to be competitive, as he’s been in the triple digits for a lot of his career in the sprinting division. He won’t mind the soft ground and I’m hoping that he can get a decent tow into the contest from his low stall position in box one.

He was arguably unlucky last time (finished seventh to Illusionist who reopposes) when stopped at a vital stage in a really competitive sprint at York. Surprisingly the handicapper has eased him another 3lbs! Another to note is Be Proud at a big each-way price. Drawn on the other side of the track in stall 14, Jim Goldie’s runner shouldn’t be underestimated.

Jason Weaver tips summary:

14:00 Newbury – Light Infantry
14:35 Newbury – Max Vega
15:15 Doncaster – Bayside Boy
15:50 Doncaster – Deodar
16:20 Doncaster – Lahore
