CAMPROND resumed his progress when winning the Persian War Novices’ Hurdle at Chepstow last time, forging clear in the straight to land the spoils by five lengths. That was a useful performance and this looks an excellent opportunity for him to follow up against inferior rivals.
ANY NEWS shaped with plenty of promise when second on his chasing debut at Warwick three weeks ago, doing well to be beaten just a neck after a bad mistake two out. He is sure to progress with that experience under his belt and the weight he receives from Fidelio Vallis could just give him the edge in what is likely to prove an informative contest.
SIRUH DU LAC is an interesting runner here on just his second outing for David Pipe. Formerly trained by Nick Williams, he was a smart handicap chaser at his best and his victory at the 2019 Cheltenham Festival is still fresh in the memory. Admittedly, he has been absent since falling on his debut for Pipe at this track in November, but this looks a good starting point for the new campaign. Back in a novice hurdle, he potentially has a clear class edge over his rivals.
ANNUAL INVICTUS made a promising start to his chasing career when filling the runner-up spot at Uttoxeter earlier this month, sticking to his task well to be beaten only two and a half lengths behind Faivoir. Annual Invictus is 8 lb better off at the weights with Faivoir this time and the step up in trip will also be in his favour. In a wide-open contest despite the small field, Annual Invictus could be worth siding with to get off the mark over fences at the second attempt.
GUARD YOUR DREAMS showed useful form in seven starts over hurdles last season, producing his best effort when third in the Grade 1 Mersey Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree on his final start. He begins the new campaign on a BHA mark of 140 and that could prove lenient judged on the balance of his form. He comfortably sets the standard here on Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings and there could still be more to come from him over two and a half miles (raced mostly at two miles).
STRICTLYADANCER shaped better than the bare result when fifth on his recent reappearance at Chepstow. In a race where it paid to be handy, he was simply left with too much to do and it’s worth marking his effort up given that he fared best of those who were held up. He made good progress last season and the way he shaped on his latest run suggests he is still on a fair mark. With that in mind, he remains a horse to keep on the right side.
GO DANTE created an excellent impression when making a successful debut in a bumper at Wincanton in March, making smooth headway into contention before quickening clear in the final two furlongs to win easily by seven and a half lengths. He clearly possesses an above-average level of ability and his connections are likely to have high hopes for him as a hurdler. An exciting prospect, he is fancied to make a winning start here before going on to bigger and better things.
