13:00 Social Contact
SOCIAL CONTACT attracted some support and shaped promisingly when fourth in an interesting maiden at Newcastle on last month’s debut, just leaving the impression she needed the run in the closing stages, and has to be considered the one to beat with improvement on the cards.
Lila Girl and Trois Vallees are a couple of likely types on paper and strong market support for either would put a slightly different slant on matters.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
13:30 Hither
HITHER is from a family connections’ have enjoyed plenty of success with – dam is a half-sister to smart winner Here And Now out of Oaks winner Look Here – and, while she will likely excel over middle distances next year, she could be up to making a winning start for a yard that have enjoyed a good year with their juveniles. Fellow newcomer Sound Angela is another to note in what looks an ordinary novice for the track.
14:05 Noble Order
Those with experience haven’t achieved much so far, and this will very likely go to a newcomer, with NOBLE ORDER, My Prospero and It Is Now all having plenty to recommend them on breeding. The first-named, who is from a family of first-time-out winners, gets the nod. But, the betting is likely to provide more clues.
14:40 Al Nafir
This looks a red-hot maiden littered with promising types stepping who are now stepping up to 1-and-a-quarter miles for the first time. AL NAFIR, a brother to top-class Ghaiyyath, shaped with abundant promise when finishing runner-up to a potentially smart type over a mile here on debut earlier this month.
Now open to significant improvement, he is fancied to come out on top. Laatansa was just a place behind the selection that day so he rates a big danger, ahead of the Gosden-trained duo March Moon and Delphinus.
15:15 Educator
The William Haggas-trained EDUCATOR was too green to show anything on debut at Newbury, but he was well backed, and showed much improved form on his next start at Goodwood – beaten only narrowly by a fellow improver who came from much further back. Educator progressed again to open his account in first-time cheekpieces at Haydock last time, looking every inch a good middle-distance prospect for next year.
He has been handed a fair handicap mark since and will relish the step up to a mile-and-a-quarter now, so he’s a confident selection to follow up at the likely expense of High Fibre – who is another who will appreciate this step up in trip.
15:50 Bashkirova
This looks a useful handicap and a strong case can be made for both BASHKIROVA and Random Harvest, but the former narrowly shades the vote. She comes from the family of 1000 Guineas winner Russian Rhythm and overcame greenness to make a winning debut at Nottingham before following up under a penalty at Newcastle last time where she beat a next-time-out winner. Bashkirova was more professional on that occasion and should have even more to offer now handicapping from a fair-looking mark.
16:25 Nahri
NAHRI is from a good family – out of a half-sister to top-class Postponed – and represents a top stable, so a chance is taken on him to make a winning start despite Leicester winner Perseus Way having an edge in terms of experience. King of Ice, a promising sixth at this track on debut, is another one to note in what looks like a hot race on paper.
17:00 Bolton Abbey
BOLTON ABBEY has had a fair bit of racing but his form is largely solid, so he’s worth another chance in first-time cheekpieces to confirm the merit of his Chester third having not been seen to best effect on his all-weather and nursery debut at Lingfield last time.
Convection caught the eye at Kempton last time and appeals as the type to progress again now venturing into handicaps. Ibn Aldar and Siraju are a couple of others to note.
