Haddex Des Obeaux ran a pleasing race under his penalty at Fontwell but he would probably prefer softer ground here and, in any case, conceding weight to MIDNIGHTS LEGACY won’t be easy. The selection is a good Flat horse and it’s not hard to give him another chance in this discipline.

14:30 – Gaia Vallis

All of these come with risks, including Chapati after his short-priced failure at Kelso. Chasing debutant Salamanca School should go well after a respectable third in a handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter but he’s no certainty to confirm placings with the fourth GAIA VALLIS, who will appreciate this longer trip and she’s a past winner in this discipline.

15:05 – Sergeant

Although an 8lb rise asks a stern question of SERGEANT there was sufficient swagger in his Exeter win to believe he can go in again. Hackbridge looks up to winning races off his current mark and Electric Annie is another alternative back on drier ground.

15:40 – Up The Straight

Richard Rowe’s UP THE STRAIGHT gained a good bit of chasing experience last season and there were plenty of positives despite him not winning. With Pisgah Pike burdened with two penalties, Botox Has could be the one he has to beat.

16:15 – Royaume Uni

Gary Moore’s ROYAUME UNI (nap) comes here soon after a pleasing effort on the Flat and he appeals as the type to raise his profile this season. He ran well in better handicaps than this last season. Peterborough, off his lower hurdle mark and from a stable having winners, may be next best.

16:50 – Brother Pat

Regaby is capable but clearly risky and One For Dunstan may need soft ground. Churchtown Glen shouldn’t be far away but BROTHER PAT is probably the safest option, for all that he’s unraced over quite this far.

17:22 – Jungle Prose

Nick Gifford won this race (named after his father Josh) 12 months ago and it could happen again through JUNGLE PROSE who is feasibly handicapped on her best form. Achy Breaky Heart is the obvious threat off what should be a good mark on this return to hurdling.
